almond milk?
i started using it for my breakfast shake and i find that i am much fuller for longer than i would be getting more protein from skim. i guess cause it's thicker that it helps. if i want a glass of milk i still will have a glass of skim. i don't care for the almond milk much by itself. i just wi**** had more protein.
Ffor me the answer nis yes. I don't use the milk, almond or coows for the protein factor. I use it for the "makes my shakes taste creamier factor".
In that respect, the less carbs in my homemade almond milk (4 per 8 oz) is what I am going for as I am VEEERY carb sensitive and I have to minimize the carbs the most. I get plenty of protein from 3-4 shakes a day and dense protein I eat in between.
Als o,sugar and carbs are the same thing so my almond milk lowers the sugar factor as well.

I use almond milk because my Dr. doesn't allow cow milk (at least didn't for the band diet) due to all the milk sugars. So I use blue diamond unsweetened vanilla almond breeze for my protein shakes. I used to use soy but there are fewer carbs in the almond milk and I dont' want to eat too much soy due to all the studies lately that are showing there may be a relationship between thyroid/hormonal problems and too much soy.
Also unsweetened chocolate almond milk is freaking awesome as hot chocolate, if you add a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa and some sweetener (stevia, erithrytol, or splenda). Makes a nice treat. You can also make it with vanilla or unflavored almond milk.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I have had almond milk in the past so I know it is super good. It looks like that is what I am going to use for my shakes. I just wasn't sure if the protein drop was worth it.....but you are right.....if I am using protein supplements and getting enough from food I shouldn't need the 6g extra from the milk.

I use almond milk because it saves on carbs. I don't think it's worth the protein. I do want to say that the first time I drank it, I dumped on it. I don't know why and it hasn't happened since. I might have drank it too fast. I don't know if that has happened to anyone else but I just wanted to put that out there.

Oddly I use cows milk because I'm lactose intolerant helps keep me pooping mostly without the use of stimulants... In the grand scheme of things I dont actually consume much sugar now because everything is sugar free so I also take the milk as extra protein two glasses plus protein powder = 68 grams of protein plus 16 ounces of liquids
Just a suggestion, I didn't switch to almond mil****il a couple of months post-op. In those very early weeks, the carbs and cravings tend not to be an issue because you're consuming so little. Your first priority is getting in enough liquids so you don't get dehydrated. Priority #2 is getting in your protein, which is HARD for awhile. So, you may want to use skim mil****il it's easier to make your protein goals, then switch.
