HELP!

I'm having surgery tomorrow and they want the bowels cleared.  They gave me the Golitely stuff to drink.

When I mixed it I got tons of bubbles.  It looks carbonated.  I see that there is Bicarbonate soda in it.  I have not had a soda in 3 years because we are told to avoid carbination.

Has anyone used this post surgery?  Is this harmful to us?

The other issue is that you are supposed to drink 8 oz. of it every 10 minutes.  I can hardly do 8 oz. in 30 minutes.

These freaking doctors need to educate themselves on our surgery or at least listen to us.  I know there are pill alternatives to this treatment but he would not prescribe it.

HELP!!!

Go to the pharmacy and get a bottle of magnesium citrate. It does the same thing and doctors use them interchangeably. You drink the 12? Oz bottle and then clear liquids for the rest of the night. Good luck!

My surgery was just yesterday- th day before I was told to buy a bottle of magnesium citrate. Drink half at 3:00 and the other half at 7:00. IT WILL WORK! Oh and I recommend the grape flavor I tried all of them and grape was by far the best.

I ate very lightly yesterday and today I just had yogurt this morning.

Others here have recommended taking magnesium citrate.  I bought a bottle of that.  Let's hope it works because I'm counting on it.

I had a colonoscopy in December and as part of the surgical prep had to do clear liquids (not even protein powder) the day before and then at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. drink a bottle of citrate magnesium - two bottles in all.  Oh yes, it works!

For my upcoming sleeve surgery, they've told me to take a single dose of Milk of Magnesia the morning before surgery and to  follow a clear liquid diet all day.  I figure that's because i will have been on a pre-op liquid diet for a total of two weeks by then so there won't be much in my system for the laxative action to flush out.
