i know what you mean. i feel very lucky to live in a time where VSG is an option for me. i always thought weight loss surgery was for people who were quite overweight and quite ill, and that it was a dangerous procedure, but for the people who had it, they really needed it and it was a risk they had to take. kind of a lesser of two evils kind of thing. now that we have the vsg, which seems a lot less dangerous, it's good to see people of lower weights 'nipping it in the bud' while they can.

Totally my rational, even as a lightweight! I was approved for RNY several years ago and I cancelled because something told me to not go through with it. I am not a medical professional but call it sixth sense or intuition or whatever, I just waited and researched. VSG is a more appropriate option for me and April is it!!!
Your question resonates with me; it is because of questions like yours that I feel so self-conscious on this board. This board has truly been a blessing to me. I don't believe I ever would have gone through with the surgery if it weren't for all the great advice and posts from folks on this board. I'm a whopping 4'10 inches tall. My highest weight of 211 was after the birth of my son. I was miserable and embarrassed because of my size. Over the next 15 years, I managed to get down to 172. During that time period, I easily gained and lost over 100. I was diagnosed with type II diabetes 9 years ago. I watched my father die from complications of the disease at a very early age. While that was scary, obviously it wasn't scary enough for me to lose the weight and keep it off. At 172, I was considered morbidly obese. On my 4'10 frame, 72 pounds of excess weight was leading me down the same path my daddy and 2 other generations before him walked down. I vowed 6 months ago that I would not allow the diabetes to take my like at such a young age. After hearing an interview on NPR, I began researching my options. I initially was interested in the lap-band. As soon as I heard about the sleeve, I knew in my heart that it was the perfect option for me. I obviously wasn't successful with weight loss on my own, but I knew that if I had the tool and the restriction that the sleeve offered, I could finally lose the weight. Insurance approved me the first time out and paid in full. I lost a little less than 10 pounds pre-OP and have lost 17 pounds post-OP. I have 45 pounds to go to reach my goal weight. Did I do it for vanity? Absolutely not! However, my new sense of confidence with my body shape sure feels good. I haven't had a migraine since surgery. I feel better than I've felt since high school. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.
