Hey Everyone!  Just curious if there is anyone on this board who was originally trying for the VSG but had to switch to the sleeve due to Crohns?  My surgeon thinks I may have Crohn's so I'm going thru the process of getting a diagnosis, so I'm now researching the sleeve and I'm just curious if there's anyone else out there like me? :)  Any imput is greatly appreciated!

Not trying to cause trouble...but please correct your post - you write " trying for the VSG but had to switch to the sleeve" - these are the same procedure.

Best of luck

Hello!
I have Ulcerative Colitis which is similar to Crohns. I have had UC since 2006. I knew that later down the road I may need to have a colectomy if my disease progresses to where medications no longer help. Given this I had never allowed myself to consider WLS as I did not want to "mess" with my intestines.  After finding out about VSG I was very excited because this would offer me surgery without altering my intestines.
After meeting with my surgeon he told me that the ONLY surgery he would do was the VSG, which was fine with me since that is what I wanted to begin with.
I had the VSG on 12/12/11 and have never felt better! Along with weight loss the surgery has also seemed to have made my UC symptoms less. I could not be happier with my choice!
Good luck!

Hi Katie! ... I battled Crohns for 10+ years before it was diagnosed. Long story short, the disease progressed to where I chose to have a permanent ileostomy with a total colectomy 2-1/2 years ago. This gave me my health back however the steroids and medication drove my weight from 140 up to 300 pounds. 18 weeks ago I had VSG surgery and have dropped 80 pounds so far. It was the BEST decision I could have made. Feel free to contact me if you have other questions.  Annie

I'm a Chron's sufferer and VSG was my only option due to it.  WONDERUL decision.  Many symptoms have diminished.  Feel free to message with any questions.
