How long till you feel "normal"?
Hello!
I'm still waiting on a surgery date...but i'm hoping for it to be sometime in late March/early April. My husbands family has a big vacation planned in mid-June, and I'm wondering if I will be feeling like myself by then? Also, what will I be eating by then? I'll hopefully be at least 8 weeks out. Any imput from vets is greatly appreciated! :)

I had surgery on March 14th last year. Let me also say I am almost 60 and I have 3rd stage liver disease so there are some factors to my recovery. It took me at least 2 months to recover 100%. But having said that there were many people in my age group that felt great after 2 weeks. For me it was fatigue but that is also an effect of having a bad liver that has to work overtime to purge your system of the toxins from surgery. If you have a healthy liver that shouldn't be a factor. Most likely at 8 weeks you will still be on mushies for the most part. I cannot tell you how important it is to be 100% on your diet in order to be assured you don't develope leaks. Your tummy is still raw, swollen and healing. If you consume foods you are not supposed to consume it is not just a dietary issue it is a recovery issue. Take your Bullit or your blender, protien shakes, and what ever foods are on your diet program to take with you. You should be able to tolerate scrambled eggs, mushed up with a little melted cheese, refried beans with some plain yogurt or sour cream, chicken breast blended up with a little broth, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, cooked zuchini blended, green beans blended. If you eat out try to order a cup of soup like chicken noodle but don't eat the noodles just drink the broth or ask them to blend it for you. If you tell the waitress you are recovering from stomach surgery they are more likely to help with dietary issues like blending etc. You can eat some refried beans with melted cheese, you can get a small chili from Wendy's and blend it, very yummmy!
Hope that helps a bit.
