FitBit buddies and some cool things about it
Hi guys -
I've seen people post asking questions about the FitBits, the BodyBuggs, and even a couple about the junky Jawbone Ups. I started looking into them, and as a dorky gadget guy, it became inevitable that I would buy one.
I picked up the Fitbit, the new model (Fitbit Ultra), same price at $100. It's cute. Just got it this evening, so haven't fully explored it. I didn't get it to help me count calories on its webpage - there's a billion free webpages and apps for that already, right? And I know what I eat so clearly now in a way I didn't before surgery.
I got it to help me be mindful of REMAINING ACTIVE.... I work a desk job, and interface with a computer way too much (why am I on one again in my free time?) I can work a full day plus extra time and have sat the majority of the day. At work today (at the pharmaceutical company I work at) I saw the tissue cross sections of an old people's legs - those who were active, and those who were sedentary. YIKES. And I know me, it's easy to remember how I exercised ... oh, recently, right? Well Fitbit will shove it in my face with its pretty graphs. (I hope).
Also monitors sleep and quality. I know getting enough sleep is related to weight loss, and I'm bad about getting enough sleep. I don't think about it much... and probably should start.
Anyone else use Fitbit and want to be my fitbit buddy?
I think they don't advertise one of the coolest things about Fitbit, which is they're making mini-apps that are really communication tie-ins with other popular websites. If you're already entering food at LoseIt or MyFitnessPal, it'll get your information from there automatically if you set it up. Also, if you log exercise with the popular free GPS tracking software EndoMondo, it'll add your exercise to your log. There's not many yet, but you can see there hwww.fitbit.com/appsere.
After I use it a bit, I'll let you know what I think if people are interested.

I actually have had one for a year or two now. Never used it. I think it's sitting in a night stand drawer. My geek husband (whom I love)picked it up.
I teased him few weeks after he gave it to me and told him it didn't work because I hadn't lost any weight and couldn't he have got the model that walked for you?
I'll pull it out and set it up.
It might be fun now....that I learned how to walk.
Where's the next cool tee shirt picture?

I've been thinking about buying one Ruggie- let us know if it turns out to be useful or just another gadget. Good luck with it and enjoy your new toy!

This is encouraging me to go charge it up and hook it back to my bra :) I too am on computers all day long and somedays probably only get up to go to the bathroom. Hopefully the walks I take my dog on and all of my other exercise is upping my steps! Now I guess I will find out :)

I have had one for a few years. I wear it everyday. I have always looked at my step count and just thought that I need to decrease my "sedentary" time - yesterday 10 hours were counted as sedentary! And that included working out in the AM and taking a walk in the afternoon and going to the store! I was really shocked. You should sign up for the weekly Fitbit summary - they send it it you every week and it gives you your stats for the week.
