In your opinion, what is the best protein powder??  I'm having surgery in march, and my NUT told me they will have Unjury in the hospital for me to try...but I was just wondering if there was anything else you all thought was better?  Preferably something I can buy in a store as opposed to ordering online??

Before surgery I liked them all, but after pre-op diet and surgery, about 3 days out I couldn't drink any of them without getting sick... but I'm unusual (ha!).  My taste very definately changed after surgery though.  I loved Nectar and Jay Robb before surgery, but since I can only keep down Unjury unflavored and Chicken Soup.  I would recommend getting 1 serving samplers and trying them out.  Vitamin Shoppe sells both Nectar and Jay Robb in individual 1 serving packets.  Also  GNC makes a fairly good premade shake in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.  Good luck with your new journey, it's worth it!

I'd have to say Jay Robb egg white protein is my absolute fav!!  You can usually find individual serving size packets in organic markets or natural markets to try it out before you buy

Thanks for all the feedback!  I'm very naive when it comes to this protein power/shake thing as I've never used it before.  From what I understand you can put the unflavored powder in pretty much anything??  I know that my surgeons office is going to supply me with all this information come surgery time...but I'd really like to get a grasp on the concept before that so I don't feel overwhelmed!

After lurking on here and a couple other sites to see what people were saying I recently ordered samples from a couple of places.  With at little over 1.5 months left on my manditory weightloss program I figure I have time to sample and taste test a few options.

Nectar - ordered a sample kit from BJs Bariatric.  What I liked is that I got to pick the flavors and with priority mail shipping it was just under $22 for 11 full size servings.  Just tried the Crystal Sky today mixed with water and 2 Truvia packets to sweeten it up.  (0 calorie sweetner that is natural, made from the Stevia plant).

Unjury - ordered a sample kit from their website, has not arrived yet but expecting good things.

GNC - they have a product they carry called Iso 100.  100% hyd. Whey Isolate.  Arrives tomorrow, again hoping good things.  This wasnt a sample, but I can always return it to my local store if I dont like it thanks to their return policies.

From everything I have read about what people like/dislike about their protein powders, the kind of protein that we need post surgery, and different things to do with the powders I am hoping these will be a good way to go.  I am really looking forward to trying out the chocolate powders in with SF chocolate pudding, or strawberry powder in with SF strawberry jello.

I like Isopure Dutch Chocolate powder from GNC. IMO it tastes alot like chocolate Slim Fast. You get 50 g protein and only 3 grams of carbs. Nectar protein is way too sweet for me and makes me gag. I do find that I need to take my time when drinking higher protein drinks vs the ones with around 15 grams, otherwise I feel nauseous.

Get samples. You can try them preop, switch postop if you need to, have the leftovers for traveling or trading, and know what you're buying before you invest in a jug. I had chocolate Unjury in the hospital and it was good but I too would rather buy from a store. Syntax Nectar chocolate truffle is my favorite, and my tastes did not change postop.
