Update on my daughter's surgery
I spoke with the surgeon today.
Basically he said that because most of the patients have to fly or drive, he puts Lovinox(sp?) in the IV during surgery. They also put on the compression socks. In my daughters case he would prescribe a few days additional (we will be there for 4 days after surgery).
He said that he will require her to get a blood test for Enemia (hemoglobin count) one week before surgery to be sure her blood levels have come right back after the tubel incident.
I think they took blood yesterday when she had a physical, so she is calling in the morning for the results. She is going to get another test next week as well just to be sure.
He seems to think that if the blood counts are back to normal and she is given the Lovinox her risk will be minimal.
I think she will be fine if all the blood tests point to a good healing process. She's been on the pre-op diet taking the multi vites with iron. She has an prescription iron which she will start taking today.
I'm going to bring compression socks for her.
Should she wear them 24/7?
Well, I'll keep you posted.
Geez...you never stop being a mom, do you?

In the hospital they had the automated compression wraps on my legs for the first 24 hours. They removed them the following day after they removed the catheter. This meant I could get out of bed when I wanted to without having to ring for the nurse. I haven't worn the compression socks at home but I promised to be active and walk. I had a two hour drive home and the doctor specifically told my s-i-l and me to stop after an hour so I could walk around.
I've also injected myself with Lovenox every day since. I have two more days to complete the 21 days my doctor prescribed.
Will think good thoughts for your daughter!

I requested Lovenox and my doctor gave me 2 weeks of it at home. I dont have to use that much but I probably will because I am paranoid of blood clots.
Im 22 and just had my surgery... you should have seen my mom

I am 27 and had both my mom and other mom there and can I tell you, I have never been so glad to have them there. My husband's mom couldn't be there, so my birth mom went with him and my other mom stayed with me, and you just have no idea how glad I was that she was there. I felt HORRIBLE and it was great to have my mommy there to wipe my face with a cold rag and just hold my hand.
NEVER stop being her mommy! :)

Glad to hear you were able to speak to the surgeon and get his opinion... you know, they gave me those shots to do for 2 weeks when I got home because they were concerned about my "limited mobility," but then I developed this horrible horrible rash, so after only 2 days they had me stop them. I walked for a few minutes every hour and you know what? I was fine.
And, uh, no, we never stop being moms!

I hope and know that everything will be fine with your daughter. I have severe anemia and a history of blood clots. I have to take prescription iron 3xs a day. My hematologist also said that I will be on Lovenox for over a month and other blood thinners for a year after surgery because of my history of clotting.
