Other laparoscopic surgeries before? What are the differences?

I have had two other lap procedures in the past.  Once to remove cysts (originally just exploratory and then they found something quite big) and another to have my tubes tied.  I was sore afterwards, but really didn't have a ton of discomfort after a few days.

If anyone here has had previous lap surgeries, how did the tiredness, soreness, etc. compare to the VSG surgery via lap?

I had my gallbladder removed in 2007 and that was also done laparoscopically.  Honestly, I had next to no pain with that surgery or with the VSG.  I've said it before that the most discomfort from the sleeve was in my throat.

For a couple of nights after I got home, I had soreness from the internal incision where the surgeon cut away, then stapled and sutured my stomach and whatever he did to repair the hiatal hernia.  So, I took a dose of the liquid pain meds before I went to bed and that's all that I needed.

I really expected more pain so it was a terrific, pleasant surprise.  Mostly I got tired easily post-op.

Good luck!

I also had my gallbladder removed (in 2006), and would compare the post-op to the VSG.  For me, the pain wasn't so much an issue as was the inability to get comfortable sleeping.  I'm a side sleeper, and wasn't able to sleep comfortably for a few weeks after both procedures.  I was definitely more tired after the VSG as well, and for a longer period of time (1+ month, compared to just a week or two for the gallbladder surgery).

I have had open for ovarian cyst, lapriscopic to have my tube severed, and 2 other laps for exploratory ovarian stuff.

I thought those made me ready for this.  I thought if I could do all that, I was good to go.  I was wrong.
This one is entirely different.  It's higher up for one, more toward your rib cage than your belly button.  Most of my incisions are just under my breasts.   After my last lap for other things I was up and going the next day, I was sore, but nothing too bad.  With my appendix (also lap) I was sore for a few days, but nothing too bad.

This one the gas just would not move.  My other lap surgeries I had had the gas before but this was awful.  Even walking a mile in 24 hours (it was a requirement to be discharged) didn't help.  My husband( who had it the same day) never took pain meds in the hospital though, he'd also never had surgery before.

I think part of what makes this surgery seem so much worse is that you hage to worry about food and such where as before, all you had to do is worry about getting better.  If that makes sense.

Thanks you so much for your input.

I know everyone and each situation is different, but I was wondering what others' experiences were.

I had my tubes tied, the VSG is a little more uncomfortable but not terribly bad; I was good to go by the 2nd night, never needed pain meds. I did have some discomfort from the gas but walking made it go away quickly.
