2 months out, still can barely eat without feeling sick
i am 2 months out tomorrow and still can only eat like a couple bites of food! is this normal? i dont like any of the things i used to like before like eggs, milk, applesauce, pudding etc. i also had my gallbladder out at the same time and i wonder if this has anything to do with not being able to eat much without getting sick? creamy soups, certain salad dressings etc. i just seem to be having so much trouble! any feedback you could give me would be appreciated!
First and foremost what you are experiencing could be totally normal. That being said a few recommendations:
1. Make sure to measure out your food (1-2oz at most at this time)
2. If you are eating dense protein make sure it's moist and that you chew throughly (think 20-30 chews per bite)
3. Take small bites (if necessary purchase some baby food spoons - I bought a package of plastic baby spoons that I could wash)
4. Make sure to space your liquids at least 30min before and after any food (in particular dense protein)
5. At two months out are you eating salad or raw veggies? That seems awfully soon
6. Your stomach may still be a little swollen which would explain why you can't eat much.
7. Eggs are notoriously finicky with our new sleeves. At 16 months out I just started to tolerate them again - can't do scrambled but over medium I am good.
8. Milk - you may have developed lactoce intolerance post surgery - not uncommon. Are you having any issues with whey protein drinks or just milk in general?
9. If these symptoms continue much beyond 3 months you should absolutely speak with your surgeon and nutritionist.
Best of luck

thank you for your response. it helps. yes i absolutely hate protein shakes and feel like im going to gag on them. my nut told me to try some salad and it didnt sit well so i stopped. i do have trouble spacing my liquids out. i was doing 15 min between meals but i will try 30 and see if that helps. i had a stricture so i had to have a egd to see if that helps and it has some but i still feel extremely full after 2 bites and then sometimes i get a cramp still. thanks for the advice!
I've read that patients with strictures may need multiple EGDs/dilations to get the proper result. Have you seen your doctor recently to discuss your eating troubles with him? You may need another scope.
Hope this gets better for you soon. You've gotten some good advice from other posters.

I was the way you are until 4 months out. I went in for a scope and after the scope I was able to actually eat. It was almost like the scope cleared the way. The doctor also prescribed domperidone to help my food digest and stop the sick feeling. I am finally able to eat 1/4 cup of food (if it isn't dense food).
Your tastes do change after surgery. It took me up until just last week to be able to stomach yogurt again. Yogurt used to be my staple food, ate it every day, now I only eat 1 a week. You will get used to eggs again, but having your gallbladder out will change eating habits as well.
As far as creamy soups and salad dressings, they could contain milk or milk products, and being lactose intollerant after surgery for a few months is not unheard of. I was able to start back on milk at 3 months out.
Keep a food journal, if something you at today doesn't agree with you, wait and try it again in a couple weeks, it might go differntly.
Good Luck on your journey.
