Is this real hunger?
VSG on 01/25/12
I will be 4 weeks post-op with my VSG on Wednesday and I am on my surgeon's puree menu at this point. I am finding myself experiencing hunger and I'm wondering if I am not eating enough.
This is what I had today....
Breakfast
1 Pureed Boiled Egg with 1tsp light mayo
Lunch
1/4 cup of pureed tuna salad.
Dinner
1/4 cup of pureed chilli with 10 grams of melted cheddar.
Snack
1 tbs of roasted red pepper hummus
1 cup of protein shake
Please help...I haven't lost weight in almost 2 weeks now...I am a little terrified that I am screwing this up.

You are absolutely eating enough and now for the bad news many of us me included have crippling hunger around the 3rd or 4th week. i was beside myself, wondering what i had done. i cried, i pulled my hair out, i regretted my decision for surgery, it was horrible. a week later, week 5 it was gone and looking at the clock was the way i decided it was time for dinner. you will white knuckle it for about a week. keep the faith. Takes a minute for the Ghrelin to modulate out.

This is exactly how I feel! Beside myself!!! I didn't experience a drop of hunger through week three and now in week 4 I feel so confused and convinced I am not going to lose any weight!!
It's frustrating but now that I know I am not the only one I can make a plan to try and combat this without running to the fridge.

Exactly the same as me.. i remember week one and two thinking 'so this is what lack of hunger feels like'. then week 3 came about, i was truly distraught, i just felt i was sold a false bill of goods and could not imagine how i was going to go through life being hungry and having to eat every hour. Then week 5 came around. I tell you it was a miracle and it hasn't changed. Just hang in there and tell your loved ones to forgive you in advance with what will undoubtedly be some very bad behavior. You're almost there.

I will b 4 weeks postop this Thursday and the past few days have been horrible. Sunday I had a meltdown. Finally figured out I feel like crap bc I am dehydrated. Today had planned to get fluid intake back on track...no such luc****il I arrived home and my nectar samples were at the front door!! It was like Christmas. I was able to drink one and get 23 gm protein in pretty easily. U can call and get 13 sample packs for $13. 866-333-7403.
Your eating less then me (except I don't eat mayo and cheese in very very small amounts), hang in there, this too shall pass...you will start losing again, if your really worried, start measuring yourself, you will probably see some movement there and then the scale again. I finally had to start weighing only once a week.......my stall kick the Christmas morning out of reading my scale every day........
Log your food and water, every day, (if your not already) so you know exactly what your talking about and stop weighing for awhile and don't despair, weight loss will come again real soon.....

Make sure you are taking Prilosec or a similar med. Sometimes acid production (or over production) in the early stages can "feel" like hunger. Take it for a few days, every time it's due and see if it helps.
I had severe acid reflux before surgery and was on Nexium for years. I took OTC Prilosec for 4 weeks after surgery on top of the Nexium. If I missed a dose, I felt "hunger".
Due to the trauma of our surgery, the stomach has to "reset" it's acid production. The remaining stomach may over produce at first to compensate (that's just the way the body is designed).
Also, the trauma to the stomach and the loss of the ghrelin producing portion may make the other grehlin producing sites in our bodies to go crazy trying to compensate at first. Then once the body settles down, the grehlin production drops.
Stay firm. Make sure you are drinking enough. Dehydration often mimics hunger too.
