Preparation before surgery
VSG on 07/09/12
Hey sexy people!
Last night, I was pondering what I could do to prepare for WLS. It's not until June, but it seems like most people have to lose weight beforehand. Advice anyone?
And just to throw this in as well, how bad is the loose skin issue? I've lost 112 lbs on my own in the past and had very little loose skin due to exercise addiction. That was 12 years ago. Now I'm a single mom with little time for the gym.

I haven't had my surgery yet so couldn't tell you about the loose skin from personal experience. My friends at my bariatric exercise class say that there is lots but also depends on your age, how much you had to lose, etc. 1 woman there says she was about my size and weight and she has about 20 pounds of excess skin (I'm 5'5", 230 pounds and want to get down to hopefully at least 150 if not below that) and she exercises like a fanatic - she comes to the twice weekly classes and she has a "Boxflex" at home she works out on every day. So...that's what little I know about it.
As for how I am preparing, I'm hoping to have mine in about a month. My insurance doesn't require the 6 months pre-op dieting. I just started today trying to figure out the whole 64 oz of water by sipping (trying to figure out how big of a sip to take) and I have set my phone to go off every 15 minutes to remind me to sip water. I may have to adjust it a little bit. I also went last night and bought some protein powder from Complete Nutrition and so far the Chocolate Fudge is not that good - I forgot to bring my milk with me to work so I had to make it with water and just try to mix it up as good as I could (which wasn't very good!). They gave me samples of other flavors so hopefully they are better.
I got samples of vitamins from my weight loss center from Bariatric Advantage but so far I'm not impressed with any of them - they seem very chalky and they just aren't very good in my opinion. I called Bariatric Advantage and they are sending me a couple sample packages of their protein powder and said that as soon as I receive these, I can request others also. You can also get sample packages of the vitamins off their website for $8.95 (sounds like it's the same pkg I received from my WLC).
I'm trying to remember to not drink anything 1/2 hour before and after meals and trying not to drink anything with my meal but that's harder for me so far.
So....that's what I'm trying to do to prepare.

Hey Robin go to GNC they have a shaker bottle that comes with a lid a lil metal ball. It works great for mixing protien power drinks. I tried a fork and a mini blender and this cup beats them both by a mile. The fork was a waste :). The blender was ok but you have to wa**** then the cup you drink out of. This cup from GNC has a spout you drink from. You will not regret the purchase trust me. Its called a shaker bottle. I got the large one because I like alot of ice in mine :)
Someone I work with recommended that also, so with 2 of you saying it's good, I'll go get one. The cup that Complete Nutrition gave me is just a cup with a lid and the lid just has 4 spokes coming out of the bottom of the lid and it did absolutely nothing to break up the lumps!!
Thanks for your advice - I'll go get one!!
