"Why don't you try diet and exercise?"

That's what the guy at Vitamin Shoppe said to me today. This was my 2nd visit to this company...my first was a different store and the guy was sooooo helpful. Not today.

I'm on day 11 of my 2 week pre-op...surgery on Monday - WOOT! And I went into the store today to see if they would match an online price for Nectar Vanilla Torte (which they didn't) and to pick up my Isopro for the day before surgery.

As he was checking me out, we were discussing flavors of Nectar products. I mentioned I'd been drinking a lot of them for the last couple weeks and surgery was Monday. He asked if I've lost weight drinking them...I said of course. He decided to be sooooo helpful with his advice and recommend that I give diet and exercise a try.

Oh reeeeaaaallllyyyy? Gee...why haven't I thought of that? Hmmm....it's not as if I have spent literally my ENTIRE life dieting and exercising and trying to control this thing. Man...I was so irritated at the ignorance of it all.

Anyhow, just venting. Ever had this happen to you?

Wow. That was totally out of line. You expect that from a family member and to that extent it's forgivable, because they worry about the risks of surgery. But a total stranger in a customer service business? No. A million times no. That's a clear disregard for privacy and respect. I would have left the store, got on the horn with their corporate 1-800 and thrown a fit. Then gone back when the general manager was there and tell him how careless and thoughtless his employee is. I have worked in customer service all of my life and it is CODE, nay, GOSPEL, that the customer is treated nicely, fairly and with care. What an ignorant sonuva!@%^&.

Thank you for that...I'm glad you said that. I was trying to decide if it would be too overreacting to call the manager and let them know. It was just so ridiculous. And so very clear he had no idea what he was talking about.

Thank you!!!

Wow! People think they can say a lot of things! Crazy!!!

This was just so very different from the experience I had at the other store. And even the manager was cool...his mom had surgery a few years ago. But then he walked away...and the ignorant sales guy opened his mouth...

Ah!!! People! Good luck to you!!!

When I told my husband that I wanted to have surgery he told me I was out of my mind. He said I just needed to change my way of life, exercise, and diet. Let me mention we have been married for 20 years and I've tried all three with no positive results. My husband has the complete opposite problem...he can't gain weight. I've also had strangers make negative comments to me about the surgery. I know exactly how you feel.

Ah...it's tough to be married to a guy like that...I'm married to a very average guy who is very normal in weight. I say average...but he's pretty cute. :-)

He has a hard time understanding...even defended the guy when I told him about this. Ahhh!! Whatever. He doesn't understand. But he is ultra supportive of my decisions and he knows I've agonized over it. I hope your man can get on board too.

Unfortunately, as of right now, only my daughter, father, and some coworkers are supporting me in this decision. But that's okay...my mind is made up and it's time to for me to make a change. Glad to hear that your hubby is supporting you!
