I am considering having the sleeve done.  I have had my first set of appointments done and I have my second set next week.  I have to work with a dietition for 6 months before the surgery though as per my insurance company, but my nurse clinician said people who were required to do that were very well prepared for the surgery, so I guess it isn't a bad thing.  Let's see, I am currently a college student, studying biology, hoping to go on to be a forensic scientist.  I am having the surgery because I have been overweight my entire life and my weight ballooned to over 300lbs while in college (the first time around).  My mom is very concerned about me and she wants to see me happy and enjoying life.  The one thing I want to do again when I lose the weight is to run.  I hope to run a marathon at some point in my life.  I am currently 359 lbs and I am 5 foot 10.  My goal weight is approximately 175.  I have been considering the surgery for many years but what really pushed me to do it this final time, was when I was listening to the radio and a cremation commercial came on and it reminded me that my dad wanted to be cremated and his ashes spread in Canada.  That made me think, what if I don't out live my parents?  What if I die before my parents? How could I do that to them?  The next day I finished filling out the paperwork and now here I am a few weeks later.

Highest Weight ~400, Surgery Weight 293, Current Weight 227, Goal Weight 180

Highest BMI: 59.1, Current BMI: 32, Goal BMI: 25

Yes, welcome!  This is a great place to learn.  Surgery isn't the total solution, but you'll be way better armed.  I think you can do anything you set your mind to!  You are young and have lots of time to achieve your goals.

Certainly, fear of my own death spurred me to surgery.  Good luck!!

I'm new too!

I am 38 yo and currently a massage therapy student. I have been overweight since I moved out of the house at 18 and it hasn't stopped. I am at my heaviest right now -265. A girlfriend of mine had surgery last year and looks fantastic. I have often thought about it over the years, but never thought I would be able to pay for it. My friend talked me into attending a seminar about the VSG and now I can't wait.

The doctor who held the seminar was great, but my company's policy doesn't cover the procedure. The out of pocket payment is almost $20,000. I am currently trying to get approved for medical financing, but my husband doesn't think it's gonna happen. Our credit is pretty bad.

Right now I am feeling helpless and disappointed. Not sure how this is all gonna play out, but I haven't given up yet. (just almost).

Wish today was better
