I am seriously considering having this surgery. I am about 120 pounds overweight. I would appreciate any advice or feedback that anyone can give me regarding the time leading up to the surgery, the procedure itself, and how it affects you after.
My time leading up to the surgery was filled w/ psych appointments to evaluate me (no sweat), pre-nutrition counseling, painless ultrasound so the surgeon knew what she was getting into, bloodwork, surgical run through with my surgeon. As to the procedure -- I had, as it turns out a very large hiatal hernia and polyps in my gall bladder. When my surgeon did my sleeve, she also removed my gall bladder and fixed the hernia. I was in the hospital for a day and a half after the surgery, then home. Stairs no problem, food no problem. The liquid diet turned out to be much easier to follow than I had thought and it only lasted for 2 weeks. At my first surgical appointment, I felt so good then I jokingly told my doctor that I didn't think she had done anything, just drew on my belly with sharpies, stuck a bandaid over them and sent me home. She laughed. Now, much lighter, I feel like a million bucks. Getting great support from my team, on going nutrition and psych and regular meets w/ my surgeon. Do it! And may you have as much success as I have had.

Jewels,
If you read through lots of posts you'll see a lot of information about everything pre and post-op.
Once you make the decision, you need to have a lot of tests and evaluations done. Whether you need to be medically monitored for six months pre-op will depend on whether your insurance is paying or you're self-pay. Different surgeons have different guidelines for the two week diet pre-op and also different schedules for the different transition phases post-op.
I started hanging out at this forum last July, reading everything that I could. I didn't have my surgery until January. By the time of my surgery date, I felt really prepared from everything I learned here. I also know that there hasn't been a single thing I've felt or experienced or wondered about that I couldn't post here and get answers from multiple people who'd experienced the same.
Good luck with your journey!
