Can I really do this?

Hi - I am 6 weeks out - my doctor sent me home using a straw and I had no problems (don't use it now just my preference). I am also having well cooked beef casserole (bit like it would be if it were done in a crock pot), with no issues at all. Haven't tried sushi, but have had raw salmon, Great source of protein - good luck!

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for letting me know how things are going for you guys. I will certainly be lurking around for the next while and beyond! I know I will need the support.

I am totally fine giving up sodas. I don't have that much soda to begin with. I had a kidney stone when I was 18 so that pretty much halted that habit.

I know the straw thing is dumb and I'd cope but I really am glad to hear I can eventually do it. I use straws all the time. Weird, I know. I am also glad to hear I can eventually have some alcohol. I just want to know I can have a glass of wine occasionally.

Thanks for the advice on the pureed foods also. I think that will be helpful.

The reason I was told I couldn't have sushi was because of higher risk of food poisoning because we have less stomach acid so the food can't be as sanitized so to speak in our stomachs. I mean the theory makes sense but it seemed dramatic.

I am in sales so I'm on the road all day. Any advice you guys have about what you do as far as eating pureed foods on the go is greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your advice so far and I look forward to the journey.

On the road I'd probably recommend stopping at a 7-11 and geting a yogurt or muscle milk.
