Good Morning!  Does anyone have a portable food scale that they can take to restaurants, etc?  I've seen some on Amazon but I'm unsure of what I need.  Any help would be appreciated!

I've never seen someone do that. I mean, it's not going to hurt and to hell with what anyone else thinks, but I would raise an eyebrow if I saw someone whip out of a food scale at the table next to me. I weighed my food the first month or so, but after a while you get good at "eyeballing" it. You learn to know exactly what 2-3 ounces of protein looks like. If you're focusing on eating only protein, as recommended, the actual scale amount is negligible anyway. 1) pure protein does not have that many calories and 2) you're probably not going to eat the actual 2-3 ounces you weight out, anyway! Certainly not exceed it.

If it were me, I wouldn't bother. Just ask for a to-go box, nibble on what you can when they bring it and pack 'er up!

Thanks!  I was sort of thinking that it would be awkward to use it at a restaurant anyway :)  We don't even go out to eat that often, to be honest.  Thanks for the advice, I'll save my money!

A little home food scale from Walmart should be just fine while you learn how to visually judge the weight of things! I spent maybe 15 bucks on mine. It's collecting dust, sadly. Wish I had a way to email it to you LOL

I agree with Biscuit but I admire you for your dedication! I use an electric "Biggest Losers" scale at home to measure my food and love it. I got it at Bed, Bathand Beyond for $20 a few years ago.

One thing that helped me is visulaizing what one ounce is, what two ounce is, what three ounces is, etc. there are a lot of websites that can help you with this but 3 to 4o oz is about the size of a deck of cards, etc.

Hope this helps and good luck!

This is what I use at home and i LOVE it.  The tare feature is particularly helpful.  I never thought about it, but it does have a slim profile and I could slip it in my purse if needed.

I admire you for even contemplating weight portions at a restaurant.  I think you will find after some consistent weighing you will be a fairly good estimator.  Before I weigh at home I take a guess and then comapre to the actuali- it helps sharpen the estimation skills for restaurant days.
