Yes I remember them talking about this in class in fact. But that was the case with "regular" calcium pills that your body has to break down and metabolize.
They pointed out that because this was an isotonic solution it was rapidly and easily absorbed by your body and that you were not limited to the 500 mg limit at a time. That's why they directed us to take 3 capfuls and place it in the glass.
I'm anxious to see what the reply is now.
Hey Kevin you are right. :) no other product can absorb the way this does. Normally 250-600 mg max is absorbed according to the research of other products needing to be digested. This product goes straight to the cell which is why less is needed. I personally followed full metabolic/ vitamin panel labs for over 4 years on this product in hundreds of pts to make sure things came back correct. We look at D storage as well as serum calcium, as the body de-mineralizes (breaks down) bone to make serum calcium levels appear normal which is why PTH and D levels is what tells me its working. When pts were given 2 caps calcium in am and 2 in pm as well as 1 cap MVI in am and 1 in pm B12 and B6 levels skyrocketed in one month in all pts. Myself and 3 other Rd's at the time using this product backed down the dosages and all pts in those first 3 practices have had no issues since. The product is now wide spread used in the bariatric field. It is backed by the AMA and has massive research behind it. It goes through rigorous testing to ensure quality. They are welcome to see all of it listed under science on the website. It even made it to Dr Oz a few years back. It was introduced several years ago at the ADA as well. Other products have to be digested and some is lost in digestion which is why dosages of those must be higher to compensate for losses. I myself take 3 caps a day in am + 1 MVI in AM for osteopenia Dx and my Dexa scan results increased 2 standard deviations on my last test this past 2011. I find obesity help chat forums to be full of well under informed patients. It seems to be made up of many pts trying to educate other pts who do not have credentials to do so. Don't let it get to you. :)

There are thousands of drugs out there and each market their product that's true, however a doctor has a license to "practice medicine" and if they tell me to take it 3 times a day then I am confident in my surgeon and his nutritionist that they have enough scientific evidence to know that this is the best and most effective vitamin for me to be taking. A doctor can use the pharmaceutical companies guidelines but practicing medicine allows you to alter that a bit if you see fit.
I am no scientist and just a 18+ year veteran paramedic in Baltimore City Fire Department but I know that IV drug dosages are different then pill form because its isotonic. The fact that you don't need as much calcium because its rapidly absorbed into the cells makes perfect sense to me. Feel free to hear back from the drug company but in the mean time I'll just continue doing what they told me to do.
