For those of you who are in the maintenance stage or close to it. Are you still waiting 30 minutes before and after to drink with your food? Or are you able to have something to drink while eating?

I always wait 45-60 minutes.  I don't want anything washing the food out of my sleeve sooner than it needs to go.  I don't need to mess around with a rule that appears to be so helpful.

I guess you just get use to it after awhile right? How about if you feel something getting stuck, can you take just a lil sip of water to get it down? I know Frisco reccomends lubing food, so i know that will help alot. I also liked when somebody posted about being creative and making their own sauces or dips. Thank you. You look great by the way

 Thank you!

I can't eat dry food and have difficulty with meat that gets microwaved.  I wasn't able to choke down chicken breast until six monts post op.  Eating food that's a little moister keeps me from getting thirsty.  Also, further out a couple of cherry tomatoes or other moist veggies help. I love meals like taco in a bowl with a lettuce leaf, ground meat and a little salsa etc.  Those  kind of meals keep my sleeve happy.

And yes, you do get used to it.  You'll find yourself gravitating to following the rules because you don't want to walk around hungry.

I take vitamins right before I eat. If I wait until after, they make me feel sick.

I'm 3 months out and am used to it already.  It does become habit after awhile.

Not to mention.....your eating habits change.  You take much smaller bites.  You chew well.  You use "lube" or eat softer and wetter foods.  It's actually quite easy to eat this way without needing a big drink to "wa**** down".

Lee, I understand the logic for the after meal part but what is the reason for the before? I thought tha****er or liquid is just going right through the sleeve so if you have a drink before a meal, what would that do? It would not close off the pyloric valve until you actually start to eat so ... am I completely on the wrong track?

I'm not that far out, but still wait closer to 60 minutes after eating. Otherwise I am hungry too fast. I can't drink at all after I eat or I feel awful.. I do a small sip for my vits. but that is it.

I always wait to drink after eating.  At least 45 minutes, but usually 60.  If I do it any sooner, I feel pressure and then the food washes out.  As for before eating... I usually stop drinking 5-10 minutes before.  Enough time for the liquid to go right through and for my pyloric valve to have a break before it senses the dense protein I give it so it closes.

If something gets that stuck feeling, do not drink!  Drinking makes it hurt and it could come right back up.  This has never happened to me (vomiting) and I'm so glad.  Be sure to chew chew chew and have enough lube with your dense proteins.
