Dr. Ikrammudin was my second surgeon. He is great! Very on top of things. You can really count on him. I had GB by a different surgeon who then pushed me aside when things went bad and Ikrammudin was the only one who would even look at me. I have been extremely greatful to have him as my surgeon. My only downside experience with it is that the U of M has THEE WORST aftercare. I hated the residents. I found a few nurses and aides that I really truly enjoyed but I also found some that made my experience extremely difficult. It is dreadful to have to be at the U after surgery. I have had three surgeries now with Dr. I and I think he is excellent, but him and him only. Cleanliness is not a priority at the U... sadly my last surgery was an open procedure due to the extensiveness of it and I'm pretty sure I had an infection before I even left the hospital but because of the lack of care, I went home in severe pain with nurses and residents telling me that it was normal. My experience is that Dr. Ikrammudin is amazing. But be stern on your aftercare!! I wish I was more hard headed at the time.
You should post this on the MN board for more responses. Also, we have a south of the river coffee group on Saturday AMs if you ever want to meet. It's informal, fun, and we have some sleevers now. There are people who have worked with many different surgeons/programs that you could chat with. Message me if you want the info.
I almost went with Dr. I, but ended up switching. Like the previous poster, I thought he was great, but even going through the preop hoops, I could tell the rest of the staff just wasn't going to be a good fit for me. The nurses at the Park Nic. program have all had WLS and I just felt better connection with them.
It won't be perfect anywhere, but there are lots of great choices in our area. It's worth shopping around to get the best fit for YOU. Best wishes!!
