I am a sponge

I am a sponge too! Really I am in information junky when it comes to diving into anything new. I want to KNOW what the score is....good and bad. There is a lot to take in for sure. Some days I get very overwhelmed but I keep on reading posts and slowly getting my head around how HUGE of a transformation WLS is. I know this will be a turning point in my life. Much like having a child changes your life forever,  after WLS your life is never the same again. There are clearly many hardships associated with VSG (and children!), but I think that is true of anything in life that matters.

What I have noticed reading on this VSG forum is that everyone's experience is different that first few months post op. Clearly there is no way to predict exactly how your body will respond to VSG. The common thread I see is that no matter what issues people have to work through that first few months, no one seems to have any regrets about taking the plunge in the long run and everyone loses a huge percentage of their excess weight.

I too love reading what the vets have to share. They give me hope that this is a solution to my weight problem that will last.

Your gonna do great. The best advice I can give you that don't be afraid to experiment a little. There is alot of cookie cutter advice that is given on here. The post op diet is not a one size fits all plan. Yes we all should get in our protein and water but their is more to the whole picture. For example I think some people obsess and go way to low on carbs. I tried to live on only 20 carbs a day and felt like I was gonna die. Did not work for me. (I still keep carbs low though). Another pushed diet advice is eating no fat or low fat fake foods. Again - I eat full fat and refuse to eat like this. Not only does low fat or no fat fake food taste like crap, but it has been proven that it is not fat that makes you fat. It is the carbohydrates that make you fat. Fat also keeps you full longer. Again moderation since fat is higher in calories (ie I don't put half a stick of butter on my toast).

I guess what I am trying to say is while you should stick to some basic eating principles its ok to try different things and switch things up. Remember that everyones body works different. What may work for me may or may not work for you. It is your challenge to find your own plan and stick to it.

You got this girl. Im excited for you and your upcoming surgery.

The truth, that I don't often share here, is that sometimes I start to want to take a break from this board and do other things in my life.  Life is knocking all the time, offering me to possibilities.  I read so many posts lately that just have me shaking my head and wondering why I come and post here.  But then I read a post like yours, and I feel a renewed sense of purpose and mission.  I start to believe that maybe my words and experience can make a difference to someone and that motivates me to keep trying.  Maybe I can't help everyone, but it is possible that I can help someone.  Thank you for your post, it caught me at just the right time.

I'm so glad that you do continue to post here Elina!
Thank-you for your sweet concern and for taking time away from all the other possibilities to share a little sage advice with the rest of us newbies!
