Am I stupid? (avatar question)

I'm trying to change my avatar to a picture of a scene from An Affair to Remember (best movie ever, btw) and it continues to keep my old avatar even after I remove it and then add the new avatar. Is there some sort of trick? This site is kinda hard to use and I've been here for three months.
