Anybody watching The Weight of the Nation on HBO?

I agree, and think Drs who continue to push the "bariatric as the last resort of the dying" are bordering on malpractice, and have said this once to a very nosy ObGyn.. If they suggested for one second that someone with cancer not get the treatment that has the best possible outcome and chances for remission of that particular disease, they would lose their license to practice.. why then do they get away with pushing ineffective dietary interventions when the known failure rate is so sky high for this one? (Yes, I know- it's because they, along with many folks - including many MO & formerly MO folks see obesity as a moral failing, which tends to lead to "blame the patient" attitudes among other things..) /rant.

I was frustrated by the doctor's comment as well, and everything you said about them following only the one bypass patient.  Even with the complications he was still happy he had done it, but I wish they'd had a wider range of examples.  They seemed to be encouraging only moderate weight loss, like 10% extra weight.  I know that's an excellent start, and if everyone lost that much we'd be a much healthier country, but I know I need more.

The episode on children is devastating to watch.  It made me want to immediately close all fast food restaurants and force food companies to focus on healthy foods instead of the garbage they push on kids.  But the corporate lobbyists are so strong.....

I can only imagine... I'll chime in a little with my thoughts after I've watched all 3..
