My hunger came back about 3 days after surgery. Now, the only time I don't have hunger is on days when I'm VERY stressed. Other than those days, I get hungry every 3-4 hours.

The PPI was what finally killed my "hunger." I was the same as you, about 3-4 days after surgery the "hunger" started. At my two week follow up I mentioned this to the surgeon (I was also having some heartburn issues) and she started me on 2x Pepsid a day. Within 48 hours my "hunger" was gone completely. If I miss the dose of Pepsid it comes roaring back in a hurry.
Antacid can actually make your condition worse. While it does provide some temporary relief, your body will actually produce MORE acid trying to compensate for what you just drank or chewed. Your body is always trying to correct itself back to homeostasis and it knows that you just put something in there to reverse the acid it thinks should be there. A PPI is really the only good way of overcoming this, not getting caught up in the trap of buying endless supplies of TUMS or Malox which only make the situation worse.
