I have read several posts about people who have had surgery and had trouble breathing when they have woken up. Any advice on that ? I have major breathing issues and hearing that scares me alot. My lung doctor has given me the ok to have the surgery and I do trust her. But that part of me is screaming look out.

This is a problem with most any surgery post op when your under anesthesia.  They gave me a device to use after surgery to breath in and out opening and expanding the lungs so they wouldn't collapse or to try and prevent that at least.  Try to use that often especially if you have COPD to begin with.

They will keep you on oxygen and watch your O2 stats just take your time sitting up and standing up so you don't get short of breath right after and you should be fine good luck!

I too have COPD altho I had a band I also have had about 12+ other surgeries since being diagnosed with the COPD. They take extra precautions when they know you have lung issues and it is extra important that we use the spirometer after surgery to get our lungs opened back up. Another thing I found that helped was having extra pillows so I wasn't laying flat in bed. In fact they even gave me an extra one in the surgery suite so I could breath easier before they knocked me out. They also have albuterol available after surgery to help you if you are having issues in recovery just ask for it. Try not to worry too much, yes it's an issue but as long as they are aware of it they will take the extra steps to help you. Trust me they don't want anything bad to happen to you either, the last thing they want is to face a lawsuit!

You can do it Charlotte! I know how hard it is, white knuckle it out if you have to. Find something anything that can act as a 15-30 minute distraction when the craving**** hard. I played dumb little games on my phone or iPad, whatever gets you through it.

Keep at quitting, it took me about 6 tries before it stuck. They might go ahead with it if you are smoking that little but either way just keep at it. I wouldn't wish the way  I have to live now, being on oxygen 24/7, on anyone it is awful!!
