alcohol after VSG
Admittedly, I had a drink Way too early and it didn't go so well. I learned in time to deal with and limit my drinks for special occasions. But in the end, I learned to just enjoy myself with the natural high of losing the excess weight and feeling good in my own skin! It feels sooooo much better than a buzz
Oh, and a hangover!!!

Exactly...thank you! And I have never had a hangover...I sure don't want to do it now!!!
If I can go to a 2 day Metallica festival and not embibe, I know you can do it! I plan to wait for a year, or six months after I hit goal if it takes more than a year (please NO). But I haven't been a big drinker since my kids were born so I don't miss it too much.
I do want that big sugary Margarita though, for some reason I've been thinking about the salt on the rim and licking my lips. I imagine it would put my ass out for a loooooong time if I actually drank it.

LOL! So true! I will remember you and your concert too! I have never been a big drinker anyway...so it's not that big of a deal. But for whatever reason, I have been wanting a drink lately. But no drinks! I am going to stay strong and stick with the original goal and be able to say I DID IT!
You too! :)
You too! :)
I am 17 months post-op. I have plenty of room in my maintenance diet for the calories from a glass of wine. The problem comes when that wine goes slip sliding through my tiny tummy into my intestines about 50% faster than if I had a normal stomach. The undigested alcohol comes in contact with the lining of the intestines which has a far greater surface area for absorption than the long-gone fundus that once made up my stomach. That causes the alcohol to go rocketing into my unsuspecting bloodstream
At 130lbs, I have a lot less body mass than at 291. Within minutes, I have the beginnings of a buzz, and the powerful muscle relaxant begins to work on the most important muscle in my body -- my brain -relaxing certain carefully cultivated inhibitions including the one that screams, 'don't eat without a purpose!' when yummy but unneccessary stuff presents itself. The other muscle it relaxes is my wonderful sleeve. It is a dangerous combination, and 80 calories from a glass of wine can very quickly turn into 500 calories.
I drank half a glass of wine Saturday night, and my carefully planned 1500 calorie day became a 1900 calorie day which is still within my limit but not where I wanted to be that day. What did I eat? Nothing terrible, an extra snack and a no sugar added Klondike bar I ususally reserve for after my workouts. I journaled it, and went about my day. It was not lost on me, however, that I ate what I wanted rather than what I know i needed.
In Vino Veritas... In wine there there is truth.
Bottom line, alcohol lowers inhibitions which can cause you to eat what you really want just as it can cause you to say what you really mean without regard to reason or consequence.

I haven't tried it yet, but I was instructed to protect my tummy 30 minutes before I drink with a PPI. I am not on a PPI now, so I am too afraid to even try it without it. My sleeve can be picky with some things. I used to get buzzed on just one drink before. It scares me a bit to think about getting buzzed on a sip. Talk about a cheap date.
plain and simple-- NO.
