What do I tell others if I don't want to tell them I am having VSG?
I told people at work I would be out having surgery, and not one person asked what kind of surgery. (I do seem to broadcast a privacy vibe, I think, that people tend to respect.) I also played it down, not a lot of hoo-rah or drama around my absence. I think it helps that I work from home 2-3 days a week, so being out of the office wasn't all that noticeable. I learned a couple months later that one person assumed I was having knee surgery, since I've been suffering with my knee forever, which made me laugh!
And I don't think people have associated my weight loss with that week I was out having surgery, either. Or if they do they haven't confronted me about it. (Again, it's a pretty respectful workplace.) If people ask me how I did it, I say lower portions, low carb. Which is the truth.
