Has your insurance ever declined you?

I too was denied!  My surgeon's office jumped the gun and submitted everything too early.

Here are the reasons i was denied
because i only did 4 months of the 6 months preop diet
paperwork did not show co-morbilities therefore not medically necessary

So now

I am completing the 2 remaining months of my preop diet
The complete medical notes will be sent in (orignally surgeons office only submitted a weight summary) Which will show that i have had Hypertension for the last 5 years

Good Luck!

I too, was Denied initially, (Cigna) they said they never received the letter of recommendation from a 2nd Doctor other than my surgeon. So they faxed that over for reconsideration and I was finally approved this week. It was about 18-19 days of pure stress.

I called every couple days and always got a different story.  They had my paperwork, then they didn't, then it was in the wrong department so they sent to the right department, then the right department said they didnt have it, then they did.....lol then it was denied, then pending reconsideration. Every time I called  they gave me a time frame between 2-5 days.

So I called Monday and Cigna says I am approved. I called my surgeon and they called yesterday and they were told it was still pending. So i called Cigna again....they tell me I am approved. I was done at that point and threw my hands up. Well my surgeon's office called today and they got the letter stating I was approved.

HOORAY!

Just be up for anything. Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it insane :)

Best of Luck!!!

i was denied about a year ago, and have been following my insurance closly due to changes in their surgical weight loss policy. In April of 2012 they relaxed some of the qualifications just enough for me to believe they will approve me this time. I was already enrolled in MWL program by then. I have my consult with the surgeon end of July.
I have sleep apnea which should help. Dont hesitate to be the squeeky wheel. Keep calling till they are sick of it and approve you!

Thank you so much everyone. After reading everyone's stories, it made me feel so much better that this is not the end. This is just one of the many reasons why I love this site. There is so much support here.

I will keep you all updated. My biggest hurdle right now is that I want to start making phone calls to get this resolved TODAY! But I do want to give my surgeon's office a chance to get this worked out. You bet your bottom dollar I will be staying on top of this.

Thank you so much everyone!

UPDATE***

My surgeon's office just called. They called the insurance company this morning and found out a page was overlooked. So that page was flagged and is being sent back into the Medical Director for review. Apparentlly I wasn't the only one that they have had to do this with. The last person had a page missed and was approved afterwards.

Hoping for the best!
