I am post op now 14 days and still struggling in drinking water. I can get down 32 oz in one day but the rest is just too much. I never feel hungry and still trying to get the correct amount of protein in per day.  I am on mushies, and I eat tuna, eggs, and some chicken and try to get down several protein shakes a day,  but other than that nothing. It has really begun to bug me that i cannot drink enough water. I have been at a stand still for the past 4 days, nothing is moving, scales that is. I have started exercising in the pool every other day for 1/2 hour as well.  What am i doing wrong.....really frustrated with myself.

Some post-ops have the same issue - that plain water just does not go down well after VSG. Sometimes an adjustment in temperature (ho****er, warm water, cold water, ice water) can help - try them all. Also, you may have to flavor it with tea bags, Mio, crystal light, etc.

Hydration is vital for us so you are right to ask the question. You have to get a lot more than 32 oz at this stage. Mix things up and try to find something that works for you. Good luck.

Just keep it up, it will get easier. I keep a pitcher of water in my fridge with mint, sliced cucumber, Ginger and lemon slices. The slight flavor helps. If you are doing a couple protein shakes that should help with the protein, how about putting an extra scoop of protein. Or if you eat yogurt how about adding some protein powder to that. You are doing fine, do not worry about the scale, your body has gone through a lot of trauma and is probably holding onto water weight to help heal. You are doing great, you will be just fine. Best of luck!

.....what are you doing wrong?...absolutely nothing!

You may be in that classic 3 week stall period....I don't know of 1 single post op VSGr that has been able to break it.  Just because its characterized as the "3 week stall"  doesn't mean it can't happen a week or two before or after!   You'll have other stall periods that ARE breakable.   That's why measurement logs of your body are soooo important....cuz during stalls...those decreases in inches...are concrete evidence your sleeve ihas not forsaken you.  ...A stair step descent is how...soooooo many of us lose...note the word descent!!.....we lose down one step we flatten out...(3 week stall)....we lose...down another step ...we flatten out (3 month stall)....we lose...down another step....we flatten out (6 month stall)....we lose....lololol  down another step...just in time for that 9 month stall!! lol   You'll notice...yer losing inches during these periods....keep measurement logs....inc. foot width...and head width...oh year they shrink too! lolol  rings...slide off...need to resized a few times!  The incredible shrinkin barbara they'll call ya ,-)

MY PERSONAL WEIGHT LOSS GOAL

Water so important NOW....Dehydration is the #1 reason for a post op ER visit...for us.

UP YOUR WATER, UP YOUR PROTEIN  you'll see others say this over and over during other stalls too! ....no doubt its tuff at your stage.....but you can do better...we can always do better....if we want to right!   Carry tha****er bottle with you like its your baby....sip don't think sip.

Plain water early out may hurt like a mutha....its the viscosity! Not as dense as flavored water, adding lemon, teas...decaff like green herbal ( not caffeinated)  peppermint, ginger teas...buy bulk dried peppermint..make yer own, buy ginger slice...or cumin...make yer own!!.........great for gas...green teas...an anti-oxidant!  great too anti-inflammatory  what obesity is...an inflammation response.

Flavor em up...Crystal Light Pure/ Great Value Walmart Naturally Sweetened...brands...made with stevia, not so sickening sweet as regular asparatame Crystal Light/On the go flavorers...that you may need lots more water to tolerate taste.  Lemonade CL pure...I don't care for...too weak...but GV Mango Pineapple...buy it by the case!! .

Mix protein supps with water, SF popscicles...broths (homemade better ---less sodium!..ck labels if store bought..get lowest sodium!) ...sf jello...G2s, Zero sports drinks.pedilyte pops.electrolytes!!...freeze em make slushies n spoon in...great for internal incisional line swelling, throat irritation....reduce nausea....ALL COUNT AS WATER!!

avoid Vitamin Water...I read a recent article that its BOGUS...are in court battling for its continued existence....keep up with your required vits n minerals...and avoid Vitamin water for now...until label claims are proven.

Hang in there....THIS TOO SHALL PASS!! ...go take a walk....better use of energy...than bein frustrated watching grass grow....or that number on a scale lol

If you haven't measured yourself with one of those fabric measuring tape things....I suggest you do so....soon....then every month around this time or your surgery date or whenever.

Those measurements...will indeed KEEP YOU FROM LOSING YER MIND!!! lolol

I am 6 weeks out and still can't drink water or get enough liquids in. Only thing I could drink was room temp lemonade. Last week I was finally able to drink cold kool aid. It takes awhile. Don't beat yourself up about it. Just keep trying!

I have never enjoyed hot tea as much as I do now. Even at 102 degrees outside it is so yummy and just seems to go down easier. For me it has to be ice cold or hot. Anywhere in between and I barely get it down. As mentioned above, do some experimenting. Enjoy.
Oh, and I had a 3 week stall too.
