I'm cleared for swimming as of tomorrow (4 weeks out) but no abdominal stuff for another 4 weeks. Every surgeon seems to have their own plan, so you should really check with his/her office about your exercise routine.

My doc says 8 weeks for abdominal stuff.  But 24 weeks for bowling. Oddly, bowling is the only sport specifically mentioned!

And I'm really mad that I have to wait 16 weeks before going back to my circus job!

I was told not to lift anything over 5 pounds for 8 weeks and then not heavier than 10 for another 8....    If no bowling it has me wondering if no kettleballs for exercise even if under 10 lbs....

Well, that's just my surgeon's advice... others may offer up a different plan.  Aceves is very conservative in pretty much every respect - except pre-op diet.

I got cleared for Pilates at 6 weeks.  BUT, I think that was because my doctor did not understand Pilates.  It is *very* ab-intensive, and I had to go slow for a few weeks.  I was remarkably weak, but it all came back.  Good luck!

I wouldn't rush on the ab stuff. Besides if it's 6 pack abs you want, they say abs are made in the kitchen! Anyhow my doctor told me as long as I feel fine and it doesn't hurt go for it. I would progress though, like walking, then faster walking, then jogging. There is plenty of time for working out, you don't want an injury that will set you back. The best stomach workouts are planks, pushups, pull ups, squats, and dead lifts. And use heavy weights or you are just wasting time. Anything that builds your core will build abs, but you will never see ab definition unless you are under 20 percent body fat. I'm at 21 percent and can't see a single one, they are there though. Heavy weight lifting is by far the best you can do for your metabolism and toning. Best of luck!!
