Anyone develop food allergies at an older age?
I have no scientific proof mind you but I have heard that it is possible. I had someone once that was familiar with this type of thing tell me that the human body can basically change as far as allergies, etc. every 7 years or so. In his case he used to never be allergic to any type of nuts and then one day when eating a cashew mix that someone gave him for a present his entire face was swollen and his throat started to close (seriously he looked like Will Smith in Hitch).
Once he visited a allergist he found out that yep, now he was allergic to cashews (but still no other type of nut as far as they could figure out).
I know for myself I have never been allergic to anything except too much citric acid (like if I sat down and ate 4 or 5 oranges I'd be in trouble) but the other day I ate some cottage cheese mixed with some Polaner's Sugar Free Blackberry Preserves. I suspect it was something in the preserves because it's the only new thing that I have had with that combo (the cottage cheese was the same as it was pre-op and post-op) but I immediately started itching and I looked down and my hands and arms were COVERED in hives. EEEK!
Keep us updated on what the allergist says...I'm curious to know about this as well...

Check out my blog about my journey so far: http://breakingoutbebe.blogspot.com
for me, not food allergies but medications & environmental things....
I have had penicillin MANY times in my life, then one day I had it during a medical procedure and went immediately into anaphylaxic shock.....to this day have no real explanation why except that people & their allergies change
I loved receiving roses in the past, now I go into wheezing fits at the a just a quick whiff..and prolonged exposure I have an asthma attack ( allergy induced asthma, my lungs are perfectly healthy)
for me, all of this started about the time I became obese which always made me wonder if it was somehow related
