Lots of great tips here everyone .. Water intake is probably my issue. I ll try to drink more. Currently getting in at least 64oz but before surgery I drank over 100 oz so maybe my body just req more. Thanks so much,

Drink coconu****er....low cal only 60 calories for 11 oz. You need potassium and coconu****er (unsweetened not coconutmilk or juice) has twice the potassium as a banana also has all the other electrolytes you need.

Sorry about that, I know it is really painful.  They were solved for me by taking Magnesium... I had them very badly as told to me by my family practice Dr.

Definitely dehydration. I had them before sugery, and they have gotten worse post-op.  I have to have a minimum of 80 oz. of water or sports drinks per day to avoid them. Hot weather exacerbates them, too. There are leg cramp herbals that can help, but prevention is the best thing. Keep sipping/chugging the fluids!!

I haven't been sleeved, yet.  I can tell you FOR SURE that when I eat very salty foods, ie chips, before I go to bed, I am guaranteed to be woken in the night or early morning with severe leg cramps - mostly in the calf sometimes inner thigh (which is so much worse!!)...so, I would concur that it is dehydration....

I had heard the same about low potassium causing muscle cramps, but upping potassium didn't help.  Then I read that it can sometimes be low magnesium - and lo and behold, my foot cramps are much improved since I started taking magnesium.
