Anyone Eating on a Paleo Diet Post VSG?
I started eating on a Paleo styled diet long before surgery along with my bf for almost a year (my issues were portion control and unending hunger and so i opted for VSG). Now that i'm 17 days post op, I'm going back to my paleo styled eating (obviously smaller portions). I'm just wondering if anyone else has done this post op.
I had to google paleo diet to see what you plan on doing, so obviously its not something I'm following myself. But it seems to be compatable with WLS. The only thing I think I would have trouble with is the elimination of dairy products, especially while in the liquids and mushies phase.
Greek yogurt is still one of the easiest ways for me to get my protein in if I don't feel like preparing an entire meal. I also still make my protein shakes (does the paleo plan even allow something like protein powder?) with skim milk, although there are definitely people who use almond milk or water instead. And string cheese...especially early on, string cheese was a staple for me. I also use a bit of mayo to make my tuna salad, which I guess the paleo diet wouldn't like.
So all in all, I think it looks do-able, but not something I'd do personally :)

I'm sticking to my Greek yogurt and cottage cheese because it's been a staple in my diet for a long time. I'll probably keep it and things like Cassein and whey for my shakes. Some people following paleo DO use protein suppliments for specific goals, like egg based protein suppliments, but for the most part it's a whole foods approach to nutrition. My protein shakes are all jus****er, Protein powder and greensPlus Superfood... I haven't had milk in about 3 years and I tend to avoid cheesy foods just because of calorie density.
But the elimination of legumes is the big one for me. Lentils and Beans are protein rich and easy to consume on this portion right now (the mushy/soft food stage). I did well removing them from my diet before surgery, but In the liquid phase and mushy phase it was the easiest to prepare and eat to get my good protiens in. I think starting next week I'll be on my way back to a very clean paleo diet when I can eat denser foods and veggies.
I can't wait till I can eat my sauteed kale with Mushrooms, sweet potaoes and chicken.

I think you'll find the whole foods approach very easy to incorporate into a good VSG diet plan. I think many of us end up close to that just by staying high protein, low carb. I pretty much have room in my sleeve for my protein source and some veggies, and that's it. I lean towards a clean eating philosophy, although am not stringent in it at this point.
