I've had my mirena for 3 1/2 years & had my sleeve surgery a year ago. It shouldn't be a problem to have it. I am a little pissy since I got used to no periods because now I have a very light one that lasts about 4-5 days. I guess I'll take a light period over being 120 pounds heavier any day.

Had my Mirena inserted in July 2011 and VSG in Feb 2012.  Have gone through a few months of periods Every two weeks a little heavier flow but no pain. Attributed it to the hormones being released from the fat cells or I am 48 could be pre menopausal. Otherwise no problems.

I got the Mirena a couple of years before I was sleeved.  No problems at all.  No periods before the sleeve, no periods after.  Gotta love it!  :)

I'm 5'2" and 55 years old.  VSG 3/17/10

I've had my Mirena for 3yrs and was just sleeved last week. No probs except after not having a period for over a year I got it the day after I got home from the hospital. Otherwise no issues!

I have a Mirena and love it. Its great not having periods! Wierd but great! I have had it for the last 10 or so years - changed every 5. I think I am on my 3rd Mirena. Do I understand that you do get some periods after VSG even with the Mirena still in??

This might be a dealbreaker for me... or I'll ask my surgeon to get rid of the uterus at the same time as he gets rid of part of my stomach... Can they do that actually? I need to have a hysterectomy at some point in the next couple of years anyway. Can they do it at the same time as the VSG?

I had my Mirena put in about 2 years before my VSG. No periods before - but I have had a few light periods since then. Nothing like a normal period, though...and they're still very sporadic. About every 6-7 weeks. I think all of the hormone changes in our body probably cause it...

Thank you all for sharing I just had mine placed. I have not been on any birth control for 12 years they blamed me not being able to get pregnant again because of my weight and now that I am 39 I really don't want to start over. With having my surgery next month I don't want to take any chances.
