Thanks from a pre-op newbie.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this forum for how freely you share information, successes, and challenges.  It is incredibly motivational for me to see the incredible progress everyone has made, but I feel like my optimism is realistic because I'm also reading about the challenges I may experience (I spent a good amount of time lurking on the "failed" boards, too, just to get a complete picture).  I'm 99% sure VSG is the procedure for me (I have a consult with a 2nd surgeon tomorrow just because I feel I should get a 2nd opinion), and I can't wait to get started.  I'll probably call the doctor I decide to use tomorrow afternoon so I can get the 3 week medically supervised diet my insurance (CIGNA) requires started asap!

For the first time in my life I feel like I actually will be successful at losing weight and keeping it off.  It's an amazing feeling--and I haven't even really started yet!  I keep thinking of things I want to do as I become physically able to do them (or am no longer embarrassed to do them in public).  I am so incredibly grateful to my husband for understanding that this is what I need and not making me feel like a failure.  I was afraid that, as someone who has not struggled with his weight and thinks about food like it's fuel, he wouldn't understand why I couldn't just go on a diet and lose the weight once and for all.  He's a good guy, even if he does leave his damned socks on the floor. :)

Thanks,

Sarah

Oops, that should say 3 MONTHS!  LOL!  Wishful thinking on my part, I guess.  I am grateful that I have insurance that will cover anything at all, though, and I'll jump through whatever hoops they want.

I second the OP's comment, listening you all you post op people at various stages is really helpful.  makes this seem possible and slightly less scary.  I'm still terrified of the surgery and the first month recovery, but just knowing that so many have made it through is a real motivator.
