Protein Bullets and VSG - Beating a dead horse
Hi everyone...
Let me start off by saying that, yes, I did search the archives on this subject and found loads of info. However, the most recent post I found was from 2011 when I searched Protein Bullets and VSG.
Like many, I have a hard time getting my protein in. I'm lucky if I get 50 g per day. I was so sick of shakes that I stopped using them after 2 months out and have just ordered some more Unjury this week. My hair is falling out like crazy and my weight loss is creeping. I'm down approx 54 lbs since my July 9, 2012 surgery date and have A LOT more to loose. I had my labs done recently and everything was fine except low Vit D and 285 cholesterol. I think I may have to start on meds to help with it. I chase rabbits...sorry.
So, are any of you drinking the bullets or shots to help supplement your protein? From what I've read, 100% whey isolate with amino acids are the way to go. Do s******ist that coveragesthese two things? Thoughts.
New Whey is about the only one. The rest are pretty much useless as protein sources because they're not digestible for us.
I've never used them because ick.
Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22
175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012
Ok, I need some help, I must have missed something...
I understood through my research that pretty much protein is protein and when we get the recommended amount, we are good. Whey protein, egg protein, or protein from dense protein meats. (it seems to me a good combination of all of these are the BEST way to get these in. I use muscle tech protein powder, 1 scoop in 8 oz of water twice a day right now (6 days post op) and I get 60 g of protein and 8 g of carbs. whey proteins by their nature have a lot of the different micronutrients amino acids but I haven't done a breakdown by amino acids.
Mom4Jazz, is "New Whey" a brand name of protein shots?
I have a lot more to research on this because I don't know what a protein shot or bullet is and I didn't know there were protein sources we couldn't digest.
All info would be appreciated, should this be a new thread?
All proteins are not necessarily created equal. Whey protein has the highest protein level followed by beef, chicken fish and then egg protein. This is the BEST way to get the protein in.
New Whey Shots are a brand name. The first protein source in them is collagen protein which is the most poorly absorbed. They do have some whey isolate but it is number three on the ingredient list which means there is less of it. It might be as little as a teaspoon and the manufacturer can still claim it as whey protein.
The first ingredient in all of the shots,is collagen protein, even New whey. Yes,there is some whey isolate but it is the third ingredient which means there is less whey isolate and mostly collagen. We don't absorb collagen. Manufacturers can put 1 teaspoon of whey isolate in there and advertise it as good quality protein.
