I get the big 9 pack from BJs (wholesale club). It's about $10 but when you break it down, it's not that much at all. It has some original and some teriyaki flavor.

Hey Keith!

Glad you brought this up!  I return to work next week and may have to do this!

Thanks!

PS:  Looks like you've broken out of your funk!

Yeah a quick trip to the gym fixed me right up that same day. I usually cook on Sundays for the week and this Sunday got away from me. Its good to have a couple of these quick tips in your back pocket for emergencies. But best practice would be to cook for yourself so you can control what goes into it.

Something I do that you may find helpful for when rushed:
I have a LOT of 1/2 cup Rubbermaid food storage containers and a labler. When I have the urge to cook or when we have suitable leftovers I fill containers, print labels for the tops and pop them into the freezer. At the moment I have my-size containers of chili, chicken curry, ground turkey in pasta sauce, butter turkey, chicken/veg soup, salmon chowder, cauliflower/cheese soup and taco turkey. They average about 10-12 grams of protein each and fill Fred to "comfortably satisfied." (Eating to "full" results in reflux that goes on and on, so I'm learning to avoid full)

You cook lots of neat stuff. I bet if you "banked" a few servings each cooking day you'd have an interesting and worthwhile stockpile in no time. I tend to binge cook, so will buy the quad pack of ground turkey from Costco and cook 4 things in a row with it that evening - 24 meals into the freezer in just over an hour. I make soup once a week and fill a few containers for the freezer that day. Curry? Same deal.

I'm sick with a miserable, snotty cold right now and just about the last thing I'm interested in is eating, but I know my body needs healthy food to get well. Between protein coffee, my freezer minis and really simple things like the flax toast with cheese I'm having for afternoon snack (160 calories, 14g protein, 9g carb, 3g fibre) I'm getting in what I need even though I can't taste any of it.

I buy it at my local SaveOn grocery store (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and love it. The label calls it "Bread For Life Flax Bread." The slices are small enough that I can generally eat a whole piece and it has 70 calories, 6g protein, 9g carbs, 3g fibre per slice. I don't count carbs, but don't see any reason the occasional slice of it couldn't fit into a low carb plan.

I love being able to make myself a panini or grilled cheese sandwich - I just cut a slice in half top to bottom and make myself a 1/2 sandwich while making a whole one for my hubby. 1/2 a grilled cheese sandwich with 1/2 cup tomato soup. Perfect supper on a snowy day.

Thanks that sounds great:)  I've been fitting in a 1/2 cup of the Hi-Low high protein cereal in my plan, so I don't see why not.  I have some lower fat provolone slices at home already from some low carb pizza I made using Eggface's recipes, so I just need to find the bread.  There is a great low carb/diabetic store not too far from me that might have the bread as well...I'll have to check them out.

You may be pleasantly surprised at what you can find in your local grocery store. I've become quite the label reader and have found small whole grain tortillas with just a good of stats as any from the online "low carb" stores.

They make perfectly lovely quesadillas when filled with an ounce of tex mex cheese blend and a few black beans. I also like them filled with a mixture of flaked tuna and shredded sharp cheddar. A few minutes on the griddle and I have a yummy my-size lunch, supper, or - what the heck - breakfast!

I really like Hi Lo cereal too, and sometimes have a 1/2 cup serving dry as a crunchy snack. I had been having a mixture of 1/2 cup of that and 1/4 cup All Bran, but discovered that it was more than Fred could handle as a single meal. (All day reflux -yay) Now I choose 1 or the other, and occasionally enjoy the second one as my afternoon or evening snack.

Oh yeah I've found the tortillas in the store, but the cereal is from the low carb shop.  Does your grocery store carry Hi-Low?  I love that it just tastes like any other cereal out there.

I'll have to try the tuna and cheese wrap, and even the quesadilla.  Can you handle turkey pepperoni?  You can make an amazing pizza using one of those tortillas and a couple of other ingredients.

Thanks for the tips Kelly.

I wish I could get it locally! Well, technically I can, but only at a wee store across town and for $2 a box more than ordering online. I order several boxes at a time and make sure my order is big enough for cheap shipping.

I haven't tried it yet but am open to checking it out. I'll add it to my grocery list and fit it into next week's menu. What else do you like on your pizza? We like olives (both green and black) pineapple, mushrooms and peppers.
