I was told the same thing as well. I stopped after my first nutritionist appointment. Only do water now. You learn to love it.

On the view of sodas:

I'm going to have to disagree with Dawnie88 and jacreasy here.

For actual soda made with sugar/high-fructose corn syrup - are you crazy?  Drinking empty, liquid calories is one of the best ways to stall your weight loss or promote regain.  You get no restriction from liquids but can drink them up!   Say you have one can of coke each day.  That's 140 calories.   That's 51,100 calories a year, which is equivalent to 14 pounds.  Each year.

For diet soda, you might think it's safer with no calories.  Still you gotta pass.  There's two big problems with artificial sweeteners.  One is that because your brain tastes a sugary liquid, your blood insulin spikes - not as much as it would with sugar, but it does.  Remember that increasing insulin levels promotes fat storage (another reason we go low-carb).  Another issue with your brain is when it tastes lots of sugar but doesn't get it - it promotes eating more.   In studies where people ate at a buffet until satisfaction, the people that had diet sodas (as opposed to sugar sodas) actually ate a couple hundred calories more, time after time.  So drinking diet sodas could slow you down.

On the view of carbonated liquids:

Not much left that's carbonated after that.  I guess there's carbonated water.  Some people tolerate it, some don't.  Definitely not a good idea with a new, small sleeve.  Wait until maintenance to try, perhaps?

Good luck...

Dittoing you (of course.)

I am one that tolerated carbonation just fine from 6mo onwards, but have limited myself to fizzy waters on occasion only when I get the urge.. fizzy water and some lemon, and still water mixed is even better. I only have "diet" sodas when I am imbibing (save that for maint, it's best for many reasons..)
