Yeah, it is really easy early out to think "Oh that won't happen to me" or "I won't let that happen to me". But that guy is proof in the pudding that it can happen to you. That guy totally nailed the whole sleeve concept when from 320 something down to 170 something in like a year. When I say his videos inspired me they were THE reason. I exchanged some messages with him a couple years ago when I was researching and I would have never thought he would start gaining again, or if he did he would be back to working out and eating right.

I think the moral of the story is that it is one thing to play a part and go through the emotions and its a complete other thing to truly adopt the lifestyle changes so they are the new way of doing things. The say it takes 21 days to break or adopt a new habit, obviously with eating it is not the case or there is much more to it.

The lesson is clear, to paraphrase a famous saying "The price of weight-loss is eternal vigilance."

We all have something broken inside - our automatic pilot for weight doesn't work.  We have to fly manually, and be more accountable than people without this problem. It sucks, but that's the reality.  When we lose focus, the weight will come back.

Hopefully our sleeves, if not abused, will help supply some of the brakes we need on eating to help slow down weight gain if we lose focus, and help us re-lose weight gained.  But we will always have to maintain a higher degree of attention to our eating to maintain what we gained after the surgery.

This guy is a good example - hopefully he'll post an update as this was over a year old. I'd be curious to see where he is today.

Thanks for posting !

Tom

I really hope that I am wrong, but from the video, I would make a sad prediction.  I sincerely doubt that he was successful at getting back to goal.  I really want to be wrong and would celebrate being wrong about this.  I listened with a trained ear to hear the necessary commitment and understanding of what happened to his family, and big pieces of the puzzle were missing for me.  I really hope I am wrong as I want him and his wife to succeed.

I have reached out to him to see where he is today. Maybe we can get him back if he isn't already there.

I would love that, and as I said earlier, I hope that I am wrong.  I would much rather read a success story every single time.

Yes, I agree. I'd think that if he was successful he'd have posted an update - at least I would have.  And I'd have the tendency to not post anything if I was unsuccessful...

I saw this video when he first posted it. I subscribed to him a long time ago. He did regain some weight and I believe that he is going to get at least some of the regain off. He didn't regain a lot in comparison to how much he lost so that's a very good thing. He still looks healthy and good. Having a baby can definitely make anyone go off plan. Gaining weight while pregnant is a very common reality for both the wife and sometimes the husband. Do I think he should have STAYED vigilant during his wife's pregnancy? Of course. Do I think he can get back on the horse? Sure! It's up to him. It will be  harder now though. Yes, the stomach gets bigger. I agree with everyone on that. Constant vigilance is the key with the VSG. That whole "5 or 10 pound buffer" that I see successful VSG'ers like Elina, AmySDMOM on Youtube, and BandedWendy works VERY well. Never let yourself get out of that range and go back to basics right away. Apparently he did not but I think he can get back on board and at least get back down to 190-200 like he wanted. The question is: did he do it? I have no idea. I like to hope so. I still think he's great!

I really think the key is something Elina said...  You have to think like a thin person.  My friends who have never had a weight issue s are always mindful of their eating.  They eat small balanced healthy meals, they are also exercising daily and if their weight starts to increase they get on top of it right away and move it back down.  This is a lifelong change.

I quit smoking in 2004 and I knew at that time it would be the last time I would have to quit smoking.  I committed myself and have always kept aware that a single puff from a cigarette would take my right back into my 1 1/2 pack a day habit.  For me, it's the same thing with food, I have to stay vigilant to ensure I don't start walking down that path again.

Eat to live, not live to eat.
