For the Noobz: Don't Ignore Strength Training, You will Lose More Weight

I also want to stress that women should not be afraid of "bulking up."  We don't have the testosterone necessary for that.  Becoming lean and STRONG is what gives us the physique we want.

I'm still pre-op, but plan to do that as soon as I can.  About 10 years ago I did the Body for Life program, whi*****luded a LOT of resistance training.  It was pretty amazing how quickly my body transformed, even with less cardio than the average person.  Had I stuck with it, I can't imagine where I'd be now.

You are right. It would take a lot of work and a lot of red meat for a woman to "bulk" up. However they do get toned and very fast too.

I did body for life too. I stuck with it for 6 months. It was a lot of work but hands down my most successful diet.

"I'm still pre-op, but plan to do that as soon as I can." - Why wait? You can exercise while you are pre-op. In fact why not jump back into the body for life routine until your surger?

Point well made.  I was also on it for 6 months, lost 60 lbs and looked great.  I even maintained that weight loss for a while.

My surgery is on January 29th, I have one week to start the pre-op.  I'm so anxious about the surgery and having just a few days left of solid food makes it just about impossible to concentrate.   It's taking all of my energy just to prevent myself from chickening out or finding a stupid reason not to go through with it.

You will feel like that right up until they hook you up to the IV and then you will sort of commit. Its normal. Just keep in mind it is well worth it.

Thank you.  Your posts are always very informative.  I'll keep reminding myself of what this surgery can do for me.  Gotta look at the big picture.

Here's a glimpse of the big picture: I am 3 and a half months post op and some time this week I will have lost 100 lbs. Today after I got ready to go to this gym my daughter said "look how small daddy's butt is". I have never been accused of having a small butt.
