Talk to me about protein - food vs. shakes

Thanks for the replies!  I have no problem adding in more dense protein if I'm hungry (obviously that's going to be the absolute best choice).  Right now, I don't actually get hungry and a protein shake does satisfy me.  I'm not counting on that lasting, just curious if there was any reason to try to get more dense protein if hunger isn't an issue yet.  I like protein shakes ;)

I eat the same way as you. It works. I also get 25-30 gr of protein from my protein coffee breakfast. It works for me. Seems to be working for you. All good!

I'm going to say that most here have covered the dense protein vs. shakes thing well... But two things I want to share that maybe haven't been brought up.

1. Unless you are making your own shake then there are probably chemicals, etc. in it. Maybe the whole cleaner living thing has merit. For some it does and others do not care.

2. I made a choice to have a pre-packaged yogurt that was NOT Greek yogurt about a week ago. It was probiotic and had 6 g of protein in 3/4 cup where I typically have 8-14 in 1/2 a cup.

It was going down like rapid fire. In fact I got 2/3rd of it into me in 20 minutes without struggle. I stopped eating not because I was "full" but because i knew that capacity had to be hitting the limit... It wasn't. It was truly "right" through me. It was an A HA moment for me about why I need to have more protein, and have a denser food.

I guess what I am trying to say is you might not be feeling the hunger because "hunger" is "suppose" to be greatly reduced post VSG. That doesn't mean you are not drinking more than 1/2 a cup for your shake, etc. and it isn't just running straight through your system.

It is sort of food for thought and I DO drink a shake occasionally but I decided before surgery that I wanted that to be a backup. Not a staple. I hope my viewpoint makes sense.
