Hot mess! Freaking out! Help!
I'm still in the pre-op phase so I haven't gotten to the freak out yet. But, by husband was sleeved on Monday and the doctor actually said to him "I'm actually surprised to see you here, I didn't think you were going to show up!" He had surgery scheduled on Dec 17th and got the flu and I got some bad news concerning my surgery so he canceled because he wasn't ready. (Did 12 days of liquids before hand I may add). Then he rescheduled for Jan 28th and had a really tough week before hand, called the office to find out what would happen if he changed his mind. He finally decided he had to be realistic that he couldn't do it on his own, he needed the sleeve. Reading the negative posts didn't help him, and they sure aren't the norm! Odds are in YOUR favor! Good Luck with what you choose!
Hello there,
Your feelings are perfectly normal. I was flying from Saudi Arabia to Can****o have my surgery. When I had my layover in NY, that was the moment of my freak out. I was in the US and it made perfectly good sense for me to just go home and visit my family. I worried because I was going to another country to have the surgery (even though I lived 7000 miles away from home in ANOTHER country). I worried because I had never met the doc or even seen the hospital AND I was going to Mexico. I knew my friend would be coming a couple of days later but I still worried that something really bad would happen.
As a health care professional, I insisted that I see the OR and meet every single person that would be in the room with me. Well, needless to say, it is over two years later and my biggest worry is that I lost too so much weight that I did not like the way my face looked. So I have gained some weight and now just need to figure out how to get rid of belly fat with losing too much weight in the process. I do not mind having this problem, in comparison.
You will do fine. It is a scary transition and you will find that there will be times when you even miss your old self. Before I had my surgery I thought it would solve all my problems. In many ways, it amplified the things that I had buried under the fat. Then I knew the real things I needed to work on. Now I feel whole, complete, centered and simply okay. There are times that I still overeat "sleevie" and she lets me know immediately that I am trying her patience and her pushing her limits.
My sleeve is my friend and she keeps me in check.
Take care,
You will be okay.

Let me tell you Hope, I've been going through the exact same thing this week. I started my pre-op diet on Monday and have been freaking out since the weekend. The one thing that has been keeping me going is the thought of my health. I'm 26 years old and my health has been getting worse since I developed blood clots in my lungs a few years back. If you read my blog, you'll learn about the struggle I've experienced these last few years. I even had a set back just last year when I was originally scheduled to have surgery.
There are plenty of precautions in place to prevent blood clots. You'll more than likely be given blood thinners immediately after surgery and probably the remainder of your hospital stay. My surgeon sends all of his patients home with blood thinners for 2 weeks, 30 days for people with a history of them like myself.
My advice to you is to have faith, if not religiously, in the doctors you chose to do your procedure. Know that they know what they are doing, have been trained very well, and have tested you accordingly. I'm confident that you and the rest of us will do just fine just keep the faith.
