Yes I forgot to mention - I use 15 oz of water to make my decaf - I agree that even decaf is too strong. Love getting my water in this way.

That is another one of those things that are so different.  We are told no reg coffee for life. They even told us that when I was banded.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

I drink coffee every day.  I build it into my day and so far it hasn't impacted my weight loss...

Moderate coffee drinking is actually good for you. I look forward to my coffee in the am.  I bump into walls if I don't have it.  I don't use sugar or artificial sweeteners, just some half and half.  I have 2-3 cups, then my stomach has had enough.

Lots of research has been done on coffee.  If you enjoy it, life is too short to deny yourself such a simple pleasure.

I waited about 3 months post-surgery, then went with decaf, and now I'm on the real deal.

I have an espresso machine at home, and do a latte or capacino per day, and maybe a couple more Americanos.  No sleeve issues.  I'm mostly off the Nexium - I've been weaning off slowly, and maybe down to 1-2 per week from 1 per day.

I just started roasting my own beans at home.  Wow.  Seems much better than store bought.

*hijack* I would love to experiment with this.. I have always loved a great cup, and now I find even though I can spare the extra cals, I actually prefer the taste of black lightly sweetened (not sugar) coffee.. that I can taste so many subtle differences (still have a creamed coffee once in a while as dessert though!)

So, where do you get your beans to roast? Any good tips?

This website sells locally sourced beans from around the world AND has a ton of home-roasting info and tips:  www.sweetmarias.com

I started with a n 8-pound sampler from around the world.  LOVE LOVE LOVE the Ethiopian espresso blend.  But I'm just getting started.

Coolest thing? One of the best roasters is a hot air popcorn popper...

Lol! I heard the same thing about the popper! I got rid of mine pre-op, but wouldn't mind getting a new one.. I once in a blue moon have some popcorn with butter now (kiss) and that would be a good way to really justify another gadget that I only would normally use every couple months..

I'm going to look for another one - i guess they're easy to find at thrift stores. When I go to a thrift store I'm usually in the clothing section so I haven't looked. :)

I'm a little unsure if the coffee roasting might leave behind some "flavoring" that might not go too well with popcorn!

The roasting process does create some smoke... i rigged up a foil "hood" over the popper to re-direct the smoke to my downdraft stove vent, which seemed to work pretty well.
