Protein Shakes

I am pre-op and was looking at protein shakes.  I found one that was 190 cal, with 25g of protein, but it had 32g of carbs.  Of the 32g of carbs 22g of them were sugar alcohol.  The bottle advertises only 7g of NET carbs?   Do you count the sugar alcohols as carbs? Do we need to stay away from them as we do sugar its self?

Any insight would be helpful.

Try Premier Protein Shakes, they have chocolate (my fav), vanilla and strawberry. 160 calories, 30 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat, 1 sugar and 5 carbs.

They are sold are Costco/Sam's, you can buy an 18 pack for $25.

Make your own! Almond or Soy milk, frozen fruit of choice and a scoop of protein powder, then blend and... Ouila!

If you need the convenience of a ready-to-drink, then I recommend Premier Protein shakes. I get mine at Costco and they taste fantastic! They are also recommended by my WLS center.

Good luck!

I got the nectar on line. 90-100 calories, 0 carbs, 22/23g protein.  I mix with almond milk and get the calcium with out the carbs of milk.

EAS from Sams is 130 calories, 3 carbs, 23g protein.  So lots better out their.

I use Isopure whey protein, chocolate flavored.  2 scoops per drink = 50 gm of Protein, 220 cal's, 3 carbs and its tasty mixed with water or milk.  I'm 14 days post op and I prefer it mixed with water.  But, for me I really need the added protein and I like the low carb count.  Good luck.

was there also 10 gms of sugar? The sugar alcohol and net carb thing is a marketing ploy.  They want to make you think you are getting a low carb product, but the thing Bout sugar alcohols is they often act just like real sugar in our systems,in spite of the fact that "they" say we don't absorb the,

they affect me just like sugar. They make me want more sugar just like real sugar makes me want more sugar. You are likely going to stay hungry if you use this cause the SA are likely to cause your insulin to spike just like real sugar making you hungry and  feeling like you need to eat. sugar alcohols are carbs, they are just supposedly passed thru our systems without absorbing, but many ppl have found that to be untrue for ourselves.

that is really a lot of sugar alcohols for one drink and if you are going to be having several of them a day,you are likely to have diarrhea in a major way. You are also likely to have the stinkiest, most foul smelling gas you have ever had in your LIFE! Your family WILL NOT thank you for this!

you want any drink to have the most protein t,followed by other ingredients. . You want to look for whey isolate,as it it the highest quALITY PROTEIN AND THE BEST ABSORBED. whoops sorry.

Being that there are several million protein shakes on the market,I personally would not use the one you are referring to,not pre op and not post op.
