Tailoring question
Ok, so I tried Google but that was unhelpful. The only thing I've ever had tailored was my wedding dress, and it was duchess silk so that's no help. I found a dress I love and want to wear for family photos in the end of April. Went to order two sizes, just in case, and they were sold out after being fully in stock on Friday. I obsessively checked a couple of other times, and they finally had the larger of the two sizes. I'm relatively certain it's going to be too big by the end of April. It's a ponte knit, fit & flare dress. Will I be able to have that taken in? I'll return it if it's too big and can't be at that point, but I LOVE this dress and really want to wear it because I can't find anything else I like. I know this isn't a real problem, but I'd appreciate any help if someone has any idea :)
Thanks!
Hi, can I see the photo of the dress? Normally they can take dresses in but I'd like to see if there is anything on the dress that could cause a problem. Even up to two inches is no problem to take in but if you are talking 4 to 6 inches you are majorly pushing it. It's easier to take in than out.
This will be hard to take in because of the neck line. And knits are hard but not impossible. If its like say an inch yes maybe. Still you'll have to find someone talented.
Hi..I am not a seamstress, but I was a clothing designer for 12 years...and actually still work in Design & Product Develpment..And I will tell you that I think Ponte will be hard to tailor and take is due to the stretch of the fabric...Knits are harder to take in...BUT I would check with a recommended tailor.
Good luck!
Basically, you won't know until you have it on and see how it fits now. Sizing is so weird, that who knows? My suggestion, as a person who has had many items altered or custom made is to order the dress, try it on and go to the tailor and talk to him or her about your weight loss, the max you'd expect to lose, etc. Then you can have a ballpark of what it would cost -- and you can decide if the dress is worth it. Custom alterations can be pricey. They might also get more in -- so keep checking!
Good luck!
