Over My Calories By 916

I haven't been sleeved yet so if what I say is ignored, I get it.
I think the difference between maintenance and loss is that while you're in the loss phase you are training your mind, not just your body. The fact that you made such a wreckless decision isn't a great indicator for future behavior/success with temptation.
We all want eachother to do well, but we each have to take responsibility in what we bring to the forum. While you might get by with this, there are 10 more people reading that will see your loss and think they could get away with it too. Beyond your own little scope, it's also socially irresponsible when so many are watching what you do.
I didn't realize this forum was for children that were not capable of making their own decisions. If someone reads this and thinks they can get away with it then they are not ready to start this journey. I am no different than anyone else on this forum other than when I started and where my weight is. I make mistakes. I have successes and I have failures. I stall and I lose. Sometimes I eat something I shouldn't. I have the confidence to put it up here and I listens to al the feedback. I am not in trouble. There are no weight loss police. I am not gonna be fined or punished. I want this feedback. The scolding is unnecessary and is not going to undo the deed. I don't need approval to decide what to eat and I will not apologize for posting it here. I posted it here for a reason and I believe that anyone *****ads my post and sees the 4 pages of negative feedback will think "hmmm maybe I should do this" so you know what I accomplished my objective of getting people not to do this.
Yes and when you or those 10 people post about how they can't get their protein or water in or how they hit the 3 week stall or need food options or they can't poop. I am the one who answers you. I am the one *****searches new things and I am not afraid to try something new to see if it can benefit some or all of us. I take the heat on these things because if I can find just one thing that makes our lives more enjoyable or easier it is worth it. I took 3 pages of heat today over 900 calories, less than 1/3 of a pound of potential weight gain and I didn't mention that I went for a run yesterday so chances are nothing will happen. But I took the heat so people wouldn't do this. Socially responsible I would say.

No worries man. I was just thinking outloud why some might say that the two are different. I appreciate how much good you bring to the board. It was just a crap day and you lived up to it. You're right, we're not children. You owe nothing. Keep up the good work and posts.
Having been in maintenance for years, I can tell you that it is different. The thing is, you can do things for a few months that you can't do for years and years and years. So the "math" of certain choices changes.
The other thing that is different is the physiology. In the first 6 months, it is NEVER going to be easier to diet. Hunger is minimal or nonexistent. Weight is just *falling* off because you have so much to lose to just walking across the street is exercise and your calorie deficit is enormous. I took FULL advantage of that because I saw way too many people being lackadaisical about it early on and never getting to goal.
It's different psychologically for most people too. The excitement of losing lots of weight is there where later on the weight comes off slower and people are more used to you at a smaller size so they don't fawn all over you quite as much.
There are other differences but I think you have to be there to really "get" it.

I think people who hit maintenance and stop doing these things are the ones who wake up 6 months late 35 lbs overweight. This isn't a thing for maintenance. Maintenance does not mean you can eat desert and guzzle wine. It just means you hit a number. I think having the segmented mindset is very dangerous and threatens the long term viability of WLS.
I completely agree with this. Weight loss is not about being perfect, it is about taking in less calories then you need in order to burn off the fat. Maintenance is simply balancing the calories in and calories out. The food choices are identical- too many cals, too few, or balance. At some point folks will eat something that is not on whatever plan they subscribe to. It was what happens after that is critical. If you don't think you can handle a "cheat" during weight loss, you probably won't during maintenance.
I think Keith did exactly the right thing. Planned for it and adjusted afterwards. He kept perspective- 1/3 of a pound. He is not doomed. He may need to spend a day or two with cravings, but he is not doomed. And when he gets through the couple days he will realize that his plan is indeed working for him.

You well may be the first person I use the Ignore button thingy for. Reading your posts makes me tired. You are all over the map and I feel like I've been hog-tied to a rollercoaster.
I know that you don't care what I think, so I'm not going to bother telling you.
Peace. I'm gonna go find the Ignore button thingy.
If you still haven't found it, it's called "Block" on OH.

For me, I could not do this. I just would not go to an event like that during weight loss (I am only 2 months out). I had a really hard incident last week while visiting my in-laws, and it has significantly impacted me emotionally (perhaps less on the scale, but I can't be sure). If you can do it, more power to you, but I would have a really hard time with it. (Plus I have no clue how I'd react to wine.)
Just in case anyone is reading this and thinking, "well, he did it, so can I," I wanted to throw this out there: KNOW THYSELF.
I know that it would not work for me. There will be plenty of time in maintenance for this kind of thing.
Before making a plan to attend an event like this, be VERY honest with yourself about how you'll feel the next day, week, etc. and whether or not it would throw you off track.
I reject most of the offers for events like this that I get. This was a good opportunity for several reasons and on that qualifies as the better things in life which I work very hard for. Sounds like another justification but what I am trying to say is that this is not a habit. Nor is there any risk of becoming one.
Today I am back to protein powder, turkey jerky, and water.
