Bad Liquid Diet Pre Op day!

Okay, I need some encouragement. I am on day 4 of a two week liquid diet and I am sooo hungry! I have read a bunch of people say that it gets easier after day three but really I am not feeling like it. I feel like if I could go 14 days without eating then I wouldn’t be in this situation to begin with. I know the purpose of this is to shrink the liver so that it is easier for the surgeon to get to the stomach, but why do some require so long and some require little or nothing.?   It is so hard to pack lunches and make breakfast and dinner and know that I can’t even sample it, that the only think I have waiting for me is some sugar free pudding, jell-o, popsicles, oatmeal (gross) or broth.  I know that I will get through this but today has been a bad day. Nothing is satisfying the noises in my tummy! Thank you for listening.

Just keep focusing on the end goal.  This period is such a short time in the grand scheme of things and its SOOOooooo worth it when you get out the other side.

I know you are right and the big picture is the most important. I have wanted this for so long and I feel like the light is showing at the end of the tunnel and is ready to lead me on my new journey. I quit smoking and I quit drinking pop, two things that I loved sooo much. I feel like this is a petty thing to get in the way, but I swear it is harder then both of those. Thank you for the encouragement. I love this site

Hi Michelle, If  I didn't know any better I would have thought you copied one of my blogs. I promise you I said the same thing. The only thing I can say is push through it. I even missed crunching food...lol...the nutritionist told me that I could have a carrot or a piece of celery. I had my sleeve done Monday (25th) and I am still kinda feeling the same way, I am ready for some kind of seasoning. Hang in there girlfriend hang in there.

I love that when I come to this site I get responses like yours, "If I didn't know any better I would have thought you copied one of my blogs" this lets me know that I am not alone. Wow that was just a couple days ago, How are you feeling? what was surgery like and what did you feel like in the hospital. I think all these nerves started when i met with my surgeon and his nurse and they started talking about all these tubes and stuff that I would be dealing with. I have never had surgery before and so i didn't know that I would have a tube in my throat for surgery, or a drainage tube in y stomach, or a catheter. All of those really freaked me out.

You won't even know about the intubation tube.  They put it in after they knock you out and remove it before you leave theatre.  I didn't even have so much as a scratchy throat.  Wouldn't have even known I had it.

I didn't have a drainage tube or a catheter either.  That does depend on your surgeon and his procedures and your personal body.  I was as healthy as an ox when I woke up.  Just 5 little plasters was the only sign anything had even been done.

so you may not have all of those things, but it pays to know about them going in so nothing is a surprise.  I had forgotten that they do a dye test while I was under and was rather shocked when I first pee'd and it was the colour of a smurf!!....lol

Just stay positive.  It will be over before you know it and several months will fly by.  I can't believe mine was nearly 6 months ago (apart from being 130lbs lighter that is!)

Well see, I have learned something new, I didn't know about a dye test. lol, So if i would have peed blue I would have probably had a heart attack. Congrats on your success, that is amazing. I was a little discouraged because my surgeon said he only expected me to loose about 85 lbs. I was hoping that he would aim a lot higher then that. I like your numbers. 130lbs would be amazing, I still can't believe that it is happening. What is your exercise regime and if you don't mind me asking ( i am really nervous about extra skin) how is that going for you?

Losing more is totally do-able. I have already kicked all my surgeons stats into touch. I've lost more than his VSG and RNY patients have at 18 months out (I was a slightly higher start weight than his average though).

I do 40 mins on the treadmill followed by 20 mins of free weights, squats, sit ups etc about 3 times a week. But sometimes it was less, especially early out when I was struggling with my energy levels. I have a really demanding corporate job and it really was a balancing act between exercise and needing to keep my energy to use to stay vaguely intelligent at work!...lol

My boobs are probably the worst in terms of old granny skin. When I put my bra on (Im down from a 26D to a 16D), I get a little puckering of my skin. But nothing a little padding doesn't hide. They are still there and full enough which is more important!..lol

i have a little lose skin at the top, inside of my thighs, but not bad at all really. My tummy still has a bit more fat (i want to lose another 20kgs) holding things together at the moment, so it doesn't look much different at all, just a lot smaller. I have lost about 45cm off my waist and about the same off my hips. Im still an hourglass shape which Im pleased about!

My arms have definitely got some bat wing action going on, but not what I would call loose saggy skin....at this stage anyway.

So, its not too bad at this point. I do use a lot of oil (Vit.E, Moroccan oil, Bio oil etc), so that may have helped, but I really think its just genetics at the end of the day. I've just turned 40 and never get picked at that age. My mother is 65 and looks more like early 50's, so I just got lucky I think and have pretty good skin.

But any skin issues aside (which like you, I was really nervous about), I can't even describe how great it is to be this small. Running is so much easier, I have way more energy, I can wear a dress without getting heat/friction rashes between my legs, I can cross my legs comfortably for hours, I fit in a plane seat, I have had my first date in 4 years, people at work are calling me skinny, I brought a size 16 dress last week.....I could go on forever

This is without doubt the best thing I have ever done. I just wish I had done it 10 years ago!!

To be honest I am feeling really sore. they found scar tissue before they did the surgery which had to be removed. I had no idea that I would be this sore. But overall the surgery went well. I asked them not to tell me where they were putting me to sleep so I remember getting the IV inserted then waking up in recovery. my nurses were great, my surgeon not so much. she appears to be very stand offish, but the staff was excellent. as far as the tubes, it irritate my ovula which was swollen for a few days after surgery but no other complications. Oohhhh I had to do breathing treatments and I got a lot off blood thinning shots because my pressure shot up. But I had issues with my blood pressure anyway. So the only major thing I am dealing with is soreness
