Here is the link to the side effects of the drug :

http://www.drugs.com/sfx/ursodiol-side-effects.html   You might also want to look up how effective it is in preventing gall bladder removal.

All really good questions.

I'm like you. I was a surgery virgin and very nervous. I asked my doctor to remove mine for the same reason. I didn't want a second surgery. He told me that he could not promise me anything, but he would take a look at it while he was in there. He did end up taking it out. He said that it was not too bad, but he could justify going ahead and removing. I do think my recovery has been a little longer than most people on this site, but I'm glad I don't have to go through a second surgery.

My surgeon automatically takes out the gall bladder of all his Sleeve, DS, and revision patients, if it's not done already, due to the high incidence of gall stones and liver trauma with rapid weight loss. Mine is gone, and in 7 years I have had no issues as a result.

I had gallbladder issues within weeks of the VSG. I didn't realize it was my gallbladder at the time. I spoke with my surgeons office about throwing up often and back pain. That threw them in an urgent mode and I took the ultrasound and there was no functionality of the gallbladder at all. They scheduled surgery within weeks. I had my VSG on August 17and my gallbladder removal September 21. I feel great now. It was more mentally and emotionally draining than anything, but I had already made the big commitment and decision with the VSG so why freak now.

I was self pay also and the insurance took care of the gallbladder removal...after deductibles of course

I had my gall bladder out pre vsg. And let me tell you, I would do ANYTHING to have it back. It has been nothing but problems.
I would go by the saying "if it aint broke, dont try to fix it".
Definitely research your decision.
Good luck, Taylor
