Energy levels post-op with high protein-low carb diet

Okay - I need some vet's advice.  I realize I'm only one week out from surgery and just saw the internist today about my low blood pressure  (BIG VICTORY ALREADY - NO MORE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE!!).  I am very weak and absolutely no energy but am working that out on my doctor's advice as my low blood pressure has a lot to do with that.

So it got me thinking - when do you start getting your energy back on this high protein- low carb- low calorie diet after surgery?

Thank you!!

My energy actually increased post op, right away! I was feeling so great and so relieved that it all went well that I felt like I could run marathons and climb mountains. I never felt a loss of energy. I was able to get most of the water and protein in as of day two and have stayed under 40 carbs 99% of the time since.

I had similar experience to Julia. My energy levels are through the roof. I only need 6 hrs sleep per night and I am ready to go bright and early in the morning. My blood pressure and blood sugar are in control and I am on no meds right now. I think things will change for you once your body gets equilibrium. Don't attribute this to low carb, high protein. I think it has more to do with anesthesia, surgery and low blood pressure. At one week I was fatigued from anesthesia and still took naps each day. Give yourself some time. You will feel fantastic with clean eating. You really will.

I found that as long as I took my vitamins, especially my B12 I was fine (even with less sleep). Everyone is different. Give your body some time to adjust and make sure you take your vitamins and consume as much protein as you can. You'll be fine.

My surgery was 2/11 and getting my energy back has been hard.  I had an appointment for an hour yesterday and by the time I was home I was so exhausted I needed a nap.  The big thing to remember is to push your protein - the more protein I get the better my energy and vice versa.

I am four weeks out and unlike everyone out there, I am barely getting myself on my feet now. I have been exhausted, with one day being a good energy day, and the next being like I could sleep all day. I have been told for some people it may take a full 6 weeks before they start feeling "normal" I am working on that now.

It does get better every day though. Make sure you are getting your protein and vitamins in. I noticed if I dont take my vitamins and  get my protein, the fatigue is worse. Its a big change your body is making, give it a little TL****il it adjusts.

While I certainly wasn't feeling ill, it took me about 4 weeks to get back to my pre-op energy level (which was relatively low). Over the months since then, my energy level has steadily increased.  I attribute that to my weight loss and high protein/low carb and calorie regime.  So hang in there, your energy does return, and in my case, vastly improve!

I didn't have my energy back till almost six weeks out. I wasn't exhausted all the time, but I did have spells of feeling really wiped out and would need to sit down. And just in general I didn't feel like myself until several weeks out.

So, don't get discouraged if you're not bounding with energy right away, like some lucky sleevers did. You might just take a bit longer, but every day does get a little better.
