Anyone Eating Paleo?

I don't want to spark an argument here. But I would like to investigate what in the Paleo diet doesn't fit into our plan and if there are any benefits to eating Paleo over our typical Atkinsesque Low carb diet. I think the big difference is some fruit and whole grains. I see two sides on here on the whole grain issue. Some say eat it and others say stay away from it.

I will be interested in this thread...
As for whole grains, I think it depends on the body type. I hope to slowly reintroduce more whole grains in small portions when I figure out maintanance. I know that I am insulin resistant so I need to eat as few whole grains as possible to lose at a faster rate. Not just whole grains but fruit too. It will be a fine line for me when I add them back in.
For others, whole grains work well in their weight loss phase. Each of us is different and it's not one size fits all.

Funny you should ask.  I have been looking in to it and have decided to go Primal.  It's almost like Paleo, but a LITTLE less strict.  You can have dairy in small amounts and a bit more fruit going Primal.  I have done a complete lousy job of eating correctly since my revision to the sleeve.  It's time to get my ass in gear!!

Yes. But I guess it's more Primal as I do occasionally eat cheese (from pasture raised cows or raw sources only), will use grass fed butter, and still use my whey protein powder. I do not eat fruit. Or whole grain. I eat whole, unprocessed food. Simple.

and I won't argue about it.

I feel like everyone needs to eat best for them and their bodies. I *personally* feel best with NO grain. I don't miss fruit because I wasn't eating it during my WL phase and didn't add it back once I got to maintenance. My veggie choices are low carb ones only (so no beans, corn, legume, soy etc). I do like squashes and sweet potatoes, but minimize those and only eat on CrossFit days. However, I also don't believe in "paleo-izing" foods such as muffins and breads and cookies and the like.

Typical day:

Breakfast: chicken sausage or egg bites (with sausage and spinach)

Lunch: salad w. chicken, veggies, homemade dressing

Dinner: meat/fish and veg

Snacks: nuts or protein shake

I thought our food plan was Paleo?  Without the dairy...

I just bought a really nice cookbook called Paleo Slow Cooker Recipes...yum!

After you get a chance to experiment with some of the recipes, would you consider posting them??

Sure! It might be awhile I am on soft foods now.

And, the book is called, "The Paleo Slow Cooker - Healthy, Gluten-Free Meals the Easy Way" by Arsy Vartanian

I have been loosely following paleo/primal eating for a few months - since starting maintenance last December.

The big things i follow:

I stay away from non-veg carbs - basically grain free. I use nuts in place of grains.

Some fruit - mostly berries.

Protein from whole foods mainly - chicken and beef and eggs.

I do eat dairy - mostly butter and yogurt... some paleo followers do, some don't

Results:

Bodpod testing of BF%

on 10/30/12 - weight 182, BF: 16.3% - waist 32, shirt L

on 3/13/13 - weight 175, BF: 12.7% - waist 30, shirt M

I feel like it's working, and the numbers seem to agree.

Weight since hitting goal has been pretty stable between 170-175, with occaisional dips below 170, but nothing above 175.

I track everything I eat, but I have let calories rise (working out hard - so NET calories have been fairly constant). As long as BF goes down, I'm good... even with weight rising a tad, as long as it's due to muscle.

I'd like to do paleo at maintenance. I do too much dairy right now.
